Can the Nav/SYNC be by-passed?

My wife is about to get a 2011 Expedition and it has the Nav/SYNC unit. Is there a way to bypass the block so you can operate the nav and watch movies while driving? And let me disclaim that it is not for me to watch movies as much as it is for her while we travel, where I will be doing the driving. Also, when we are in another town and want to find something it is a pain in the hind-quarters to have to stop and pull over and put it in park as we have to do in our current vehicle that will go unnamed. Thanks for any insight. Mike

P.S.- and I posted this here rather than in the Expy forum as I figure somebody here would have knowledge given the model year.

http://www.coastaletech.com/synclockpick.htm

Check here, it is called a sync lockpick and allows you to do exactly like you said. Now I am not sure if they have them for the 11 yet also isnt that the new "My Touch" sync set up? If it is it may be harder to bypass.

Good luck and hope this helps.

You can only watch DVDs when the vehicle is in park. I tried it out a few weeks ago.

Sorry I didn't see your link until after I posted. That's pretty cool though.

I had it for my cadillac. It was a good product, but did seem to make the unit a bit erratic sometimes.

Thanks for the help, that should work nicely. Has anyone noticed any erratic issues with the sync?

And further apologies for being newbish as I really should have used the search function on this.
