2009 FX4 electrical problems

My 2009 FX4 randomly fails to start. The gauges go haywire and there is a loud clicking sound that seems to be coming from inside the cab. Once its jump started everything is fine. The first time it happened the dealer replaced the battery. The truck can be parked for 5 days and starts right up. Sits for 1 day and dead! This has happened 3 times since I have had the vehicle. All diagnose checks from the dealer are fine. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I had trouble with my battery and it was doing same intermitent stuff. New battery and all is good. (didn't bother w/dealer - just got sick of it and bought a new one w/ big CCAs)

How big of a battery did you get and how long has it been since you changed it?

The 2009's are shipped with only 540 CCA batteries. I have free access to batteries and swapped mine out to a 650 CCA size. Basically going from a group 59 to a group 65.

You might want to check to make sure you don't have any significant key off loads. Shouldn't have anything higher than 25 mA. Since the dealer already replaced the battery and likely checked the alternator, key off load might be your best bet.

Even though the dealer may have installed a new battery you don't know how long it has been on the shelf and chances are they did not trickle charge it prior to installing in your truck. This would mean the new battery they installed is not to its full load capacity and could cause odd things to occur.

I would slow charge it overnight and if the problem persists you can atleast scratch the battery off the list of possible issues.

My truck is doing the same, it had done this a few months ago, charged battery and problem went away. Now its back and charging it just gets me home and engine light is now on. Anyone think it could be starter?
