I think Ford employees cruise junk yards on saturday afternoons pulling dipsticks out of junk cars and trucks. They then cut them in half and rivet them back together to get the correct length. For their saturday outings they get a free coffee and doughnut once a month during a coffee break. This effort alone saved Ford from having to take a bailout from the government.I don't know if my 5.0 has a two piece dipstick.I really don't care.If it does I just hope they did not combine a Chevy and Dodge to put in my Ford.

Looks like two diff pieces put together. My guess is it is designed this way due to the bend the stick must make to travel through the tunnel. The top part appears more rigid with the bototm more pliable. Makes sense to me. If is was all pliable its may not get through the tube as well.

They make thousands of dip sticks.....then that's how they adapt them to each engine they make would be my guess....but at the same time if it works it really don't matter...

That's just the way they are, those rivets will outlast a lot of the other bolts on your truck. My 08s dipstick is riveted.

Maybe she likes it when he does that. Some people like it like that.

I've had so many two-piece engine oil dipsticks in the past years I have lost count, and it has never been a concern. Who cares? It still works. My bigger concern is the loss of the transmission fluid dipstick. That is pure stupidity in my book. I do most all of my service. I still have to ine out how to check the tranny fluid in the 6-speed. Then, add the real concern on cost savings... the elimination of the glove box light.

Smoke, there's a plug in the tranny to check and fill it, you have to get under the truck to get at it.

I work in a fire dept. which has policy to check oil and other fluids daily and we have had several two peice Ford dip sticks break off and get stuck in the block. The problem is the dip sticks aren't made to be taken in & out every day. I think most of us check own trucks once a month or so. After seeing it happen at work I'm always careful when replacing my own.

My fire department's 2006 International Engine has one piece dipsticks for both the oil and transmission. Both are over 3' long.
