I have a 2009 FX4 supercrew with luxury package I am currently looking to put new front and rear bumpers from fabfours a 4" lift from roughcountry moto metal rims size 18". any ideas about actually rim widths tire sizes or lift kit versus leveling kit. Currently in afghanistan so i have time to make the right decisions. The bumpers are the easiest so that will be done during r&r. For the tires I don't want to go too big but I dont want the distance gap either from top of tire to the fender. Current stock tire is 275/65/18.

 

I will tell you this..just make sure a 4" is what you want. If you are at all thinking about bigger then go bigger. Ok so must guys ive seen on here are running 35" tires with there 4 inch lifts. Use the search and you will find a few different setups. I think they have the Rancho 4" kit. THey got that kit so they could run OEM wheels. I cant tell you how wide of a wheel to go with, im not sure what will clear. I do know that you can run 35's with wheels close to OEM backspacing, as you can with just a leveling kit. I would have to agree with the above. If you ever thought of going higher, make sure you go up now. If not you will be disgusted the entire time on how much $$ you lost having to buy another lift of what you want. Not to nock on rough country lift kits, but I have heard lots of bad things about them so may want to do more research on them before making that decision. My truck is basically the same as yours which I have a 6in BDS Lift, 35x12.5 Nitto Trail Grapplers with the Moto Metal 955 chrome 20x10 wheels. I would say this is very good size and would recommend all to you. As you can see in picture, tires fit well with not lots of wheel well and truck doesn't look overly high. Basically went for the more aggressive style. Good Luck and hope little feedback helps you make your decision.

 

will 35x12.5 wheels fit on the stock 18 inch fx4 rims?

 

Please don't quote me on this for sure but my stock fx4 wheels were 12x9 and when I installed my 35x12.50's. I had to buy aftermarket 12x10 wheels. In that case, don't think the 35x12.50 will fit on your stock rims but like I said, please don't take my answer and run with it. Not 100% positive

 

I am not exactly sure what the width of the fx4 factory 18's are, maybe someone could pipe in. However the nitto website states that thier 35x12.5x18 are approved for rims 8.5-11 inches wide. 295/70/18, which are 34.57" tall are approved for 7.5-10'" wheels.

I read in another thread that the fx4 18's were 8" wide, which makes me lean away from the true 35's and into the 295/70/18, if for no other reason, safety. Call me chicken, or paranoid, or any other words you can think of.

 

Im pretty sure the 18'' FX4 wheels are only 7.5'' wide.

 

I cracked open the shed, and pulled out my 18's as curiosity got the best of me. My '10 FX4 18's are 8" inside lip to inside lip., as best i can measure with tires still mounted on em. FYI, I run 285/70/17 Brigestone Blizzak dmv1 on 2010 XLT wheels for the winter.

I still think the true 35/12.5/18's are a bad idea on 8" wide wheels. Any tire pro's out there have a more educated opinion?

 

I had the 4-inch Rancho system on my '09 FX4.

Stock backspacing with 18-inch wheels should work just fine. I went aftermarket 18x9 with -12mm offset for a more aggresive stance with my BFG KM2s and they fit fine. I only had very minor rubbing at full lock when the suspension was compressed (like when turning tight and going up an incline at the same time) and that was because I didn't want to trim my wheel well liner any more than necessary.

 

When you say "I had the 4 inch Rancho system" does it mean you've moved on to something else? Any reason why? I've always thought your truck had the perfect proportions

 

Desert Dawg what size are your tires. I know I am going with the Moto Metal 951 rims. I am currently looking at the Kumho Road Venture MT KL71 33/12.50/18. Im not really gonna be doing any hard off roading or anything just something for looks. After this I am going to replace the front bumper with a Fab Fours bumper already know what I want Once I figure out exactly rim offset and tire size I am going to purchase the stuff so when I get back from deployment is all I have to do is drive it. Would be nice to do some of the work myself but like anything sometimes certain things get in the way.

 

Yeah, in between Fords right now. Put mine on eBay to see what kind of interest I would get and quickly got a great offer so I decided to accept it. I am driving my VW Touareg for now, but looking at either a new Raptor Supercrew or F250 Crew King Ranch 4x4 sometime this spring.


My tires are 35x12.5/R18s in the BFG KM2s, so they are actually 34.8 inches tall. Sounds like a nice setup so will be curious to see how yours turns out.
