it not like it's ground breaking technology. in this day and age there is no reason why they couldn't build a motor that would last 300,000 miles.it just wouldn't be good for biz.

There will just be some people that just don't get it...150,000 miles out of a 3.5 V6 putting out that kind of HP and Torque...pretty impressive in my book.

Good luck getting that out of your 2010 5.4

I'm not nocking the ecoboost engine, but why is everyone so negative about the old 5.4L. That engine has been around a while and has proved itself worthy in the F150, why else would so many of us have purchased it. There's plenty of the 5.4's up there in mileage and still running strong. I think the ecoboost has some big shoes to fill, and it sounds like it is doing just that and then some. But there is still no problem with the 5.4L in my book.

I don't think it is a matter of being negative, but in the side by side comparison the 5.4L just isn't up to par with the new engines in performance (which is entirely expected). As for longevity, time will tell how the new designs hold up to abuse and whether it is as good as the 5.4L.

But I agree. The 5.4L already has a better torque curve than the 5.0L, and with a custom tune it has nice top-end power too. I don't plan to change anytime soon, at 115k and going strong.

I can tell you that if you run a quality Syn oil, & change at 5-7K intervals, those turbo's will last twice that interval!

Wait, so the 3.5L EB in the F-150 is the same as the one in the Flex? Uh... tell me I read that wrong.

The turbochargers in the F-150 EB are not the same as the tubochargers in the Flex/Taraus SHO. Honeywell vs. Garrett. Regardless, most engines designed 10-20 years for 100k miles. Engines from all OEM today are designed for 150k miles. No biggie.

Yea, no kidding. My F-I-L owns/runs a small trucking company. He has had 2 Detroit 60's blow on him in the last 5 (or so) years at about a million miles (not exaggeration), but no Turbo issues on any kind.

Just like they say not to purchase a new model motor until a few years after it has come out. I bought my 97 F-150 with the 5.4L engine and ran it for 300,000 miles before I sold it. The guy I sold it to is still running it. So the worry of an engine lasting only a few thousand miles is hoqwash. I would worry more that the word is coming to an end!!

different motor the F150 EB is a Ti VCT motor where the sho and Flex have the I VCT motor, and the F150 has a little different turbo in it.

We'll all know soon from real world data.

Everyone settle down.

Innuendo and conjecture.

I'm waiting on the '12's and if the Eco-Boost is as good as FoMoCo taunts, I just might get one myownself.

4X4 with the tow package

Absolutely priceless! I have ever heard this before. Maybe I am living under a rock.

As far as the 150,000 miles twin turbo thing... it's just a rating. Just like EPA estimates, tire wear ratings, etc. If I had a nickle for every time I broke through a "rating", I'd be rich. Heck, somedays I think my chassis was only rated for 30-35 years, but I'm still going.

Well, I read on the internet that the turbos would only last 150k miles so it must be true.
