Tracking a new truck order?

Hi Everyone!

We ordered our new F-150 earlier this week, and this morning I got the VIN... I've been googling, and searching forums all day, trying to find a way to track the order.
Does anyone have knowledge of an online method to track it via the VIN?

I did find an old thread on another forum, which has a URL, but that doesn't seem to work any longer. About the only thing I could find via Ford was a break down of the VIN on the Ford Fleet site.

How did you get a VIN in one week? What priority did your dealer assign your order?

To answer your question, go over to blue oval, look under employee forum, find the subforum called vehicle tracking, read the directions and post your vin there.

Actually, it was a surprise to me, but we got the VIN in 3 days, the order was input on Wed morning, the secretary at the dealership told my Mrs. on Thur morning that the order had been "accepted", and this morning my Mrs. emailed me the VIN from work.

I have no idea of what the assigned priority was...I can only assume that it was whatever priority the dealer assigns to vehicles they receive for the lot....I say that because the salesman that took us through the order said that they were going to order the truck whether I wanted it or not.
What I did find interesting is that I had not planned on ordering this truck for another couple of months....but the salesman called me last week and said that the dealership had received 3 allocations for trucks with the EB engine, and that if I wanted the truck before May, I'd best order it now...so we did.

he knew it was coming to memphis because that's where the dealer is i'm assuming he bought it from, the dealer will tell you that it's in route.

I have the VIN and called Ford customer service. They told me it was "in transit" with the last update being 4/1/11. I called 3 different times and they gave me 3 different reasons why its still in Kansas City. My dealer gave me a 4th reason so I don't know who to believe. I was told Ford Fleet management can give you pin-point accuracy and exact reason as to the exactly where it's at and what the hold up might be but you need to be a business or dealer to use them. I figured I'd find someone "in the know" that can tell me why it's still in Kansas City.

The "build on" date is 3/26/11 which can only make me assume it will be built that week. I have the window sticker and VIN that i pulled from Ford's inventory website.

Does anyone know anything about a rail car shortage? I got my truck order elevated in priority when I got with Ford directly. They told me there may be a rail car shortage but they were going to call me back, and they did before, to verify since the last update was 4/1. They did say my truck was already built and they went as far as give me the ramp # where it was.

I picked my new truck up this morning. It arrived at the dealership 3 months to the day after it was ordered. Mine was built 19 Feb, released from the factory on 27 Feb, and sat in the "yard" until April 4th.
The original ETA on my truck was March 7th.....after throwing a hissy fit with Ford about no information being relayed, my case was "elevated" and whether it was coincidence or not, after the case was elevated, my truck was on a train two days later.
I received daily emails on it's progress once the train started moving, and after specifically asking the question about a shortage of rail cars, was told that in fact there was/is.

Mine got on the rail quickly. Ordered on March 17, arrived by rail to Boston on April 13. It took 6 days to get from Boston to Maine by truck (4 hours away).

AH! Then I don't feel so bad. The ETA on mine was 4/12. As of today, it's STILL in the "yard", as you say. However, you bring up a good point. I'll call them tomorrow to have them send me daily email updates. I'll even throw in a hissy fit for added measure. I'm dishing out big bucks for that baby so a courtesy email is needed, at least.
