Heated Seats/Remote start question for 2011

Having a potential issue with the remote start, for any 2011 owners out there. I have the truck set to auto turn on heated seats when I do the remote start. It is 10 degrees here so I would think that would be cold enough to trigger the heated seats. When I get into the truck, the heated seats light is not on.

So my question is, do the seats warm up, but just don't turn the heated seats lights on, or do I have an issue with the truck?

And I haven't had a chance to try letting it run for awhile to see if the seats are warm when I get in, just thought I would ask while stuck in work.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I dont know about the 2011 but the heated seats in my 2008 take forever to heat up. Most of the time my heat is already kicking on before I feel any warmth from my seats. Hope that helps a little.

I don't have a 2011 but I was checking out the owner's manual for it (go read your manual!). It looks like you can change some of the remote start settings through the I.C./message center. Check to make sure the remote start climate control setting is set to Auto. I bet it will turn on the seats then. I would think the heated seat button would light up if turned on by the remote start.

I know the fan for seat cooling works when remote start is used. Nothing is lit(dash/nav ect.) in mine when I get in. When key is inserted & turned on it is but seat cooling fans stop @ that point. I haven't been able to feel any heat in my seats either even after being on for 10 minutes & my manual heat mode heats up quickly.

I've read the manual multiple times, and have everything set to auto in the message center. Unfortunately the manual doesn't give details as to how exactly it will operate. I even called Ford customer service, and they had no clue, they said to call my dealer. My dealer is very small and mine is the first 2011 they've sold, so I'm sure they don't even know exactly how it should operate.

Anyway, I do think that I've determined they do warm up, but the lights just don't turn on. The seats appeared to be slightly warmer after 2 minutes of running than the rear seats, and none of the dash lights are on, including the auto climate control, so I'm thinking they just don't turn the lights on for any of the stuff that turns on.

This also seems to be the concensus from teh F250 forums as well on how their 2011 F250's remote start is operating.

I'm going to test it again tomm. when I have a chance to let the remote start run longer after the truck has sat in the cold for awhile. That should tell me for sure.

Thanks for the input all.

They should turn on automatically. The lights will not light up. This is also how they worked in my 08 STS. I have not been able to tell if they are working in my 2011 Plat either. I think they do, but it would be nice if ford would have it setup for them to stay on once the key is turn on.

Wonder if there will be or already is a software update for the 09-10 computers. I have the gold (6 button) remote start on my 2010 Platinum. I believe that you can get the rear defrost to work with the remote start, but I have not hooked it up myself yet. Poor dealer install to say the least. I would love to have the heated/ cooled seat function to work on remote start too. As far as I know it can't be done because of the CAN BUSS. Anyone with new news about this?

^as you may know, I have the same system on my 09 Platinum. Yes you can get the rear defrost/heated side mirrors to work, but that's it due to the CANBUS issue. There's no software update. I've read on another forum that guys with Compustar rmst systems got the heated seats to work - which I assume is because Compustar must have came out with a databus interface module that integrates with Ford's CANBUS.

I highly doubt the new 2011 rmst can be used on a 2010 or earlier F150. The new 2011 Ford rmst system appears to be prewired into the truck and they just add the antenna module and program the new keys and then the truck is hooked up to the diagnostic computer at the dealership and the remote start is activated (turned on) that way. I found this info under the 2011 remote start-truck installation file on the Ford Accessory website. I have yet to find a file that indicates if there any different program option settings to change on the system. But I understand that you can change the run time of the system through the truck's I.C./message center.

That's weird that none of the dash lights come on when using the 2011 rmst.

piercede or others, can you comment on the remote range of the 2011 rmst? Also, do you have the Mykey issue that the 2010's owners had that shuts off the engine if the door is opened or you put the key in the ignition? (at least the 2010 owner's can get around that by a simple rmst programming change)

2011 Remote Start

I just purchased a 2011 Lariat Limited last weekend. I read the manual and properly selected the correct features to activate when the remote start function is used... ie heated seats on auto as well as all climate control features. My results so far

1-The heated seats will not heat period using the remote start function.
2-When the temperature is below 20 F the remote start feature will not work period!!!
3-It does not have the glitch the 2010's do with the mykey security issues. When the remote start does work I can open the door and get in the truck while the engine continues to run.

I have contracted my dealer and will be taking in for trouble shooting.... this is pretty sad for a 52k truck.

32 degrees

My dealer found out for me that the magic number for the remote to start the seats is 32 degrees F. Which in my humble opinion is dumb. This was a key feature that made me opt for the upgraded interior, before anyone says I should have tested it before hand it's hard to recreate cold in the middle of Summer.

Anyone know of a module to reprogram factory defaults?
