How bad really is the "FORD" drop in bedliner??
How bad really is the "FORD" drop in bedliner??
I'm in an area (NW Indiana/Chicago Area) that isn't known for it's like of trucks. The Rhino Liner dealer went out of business and closest is 2.5 hours. There is no Line X dealer anywhere. Even the Ford Authorized Spray In liner Dealerships, are another 2 hours in N. Chicago. The local dealer has the Ultimate Extreme Liner. Whether it's good or not, they are no name to me and have no long standing history to back up their product. Besides, I was told that the spray in would even void the paint warranty besides the dealership having a form about aftermarket accessories not eligible for warranty service.
So I decided on the Bedrug Bedtred as that seems about the best, and now I find out the shops are so limited in their hours, there's no way I could have them install it because they won't be open. They close at 5 durring the week and are closed on weekends. I work an hour away and wouldn't even get to their shop until 4:30! I need them to install it as it's 15 degrees out and I have no where to do it myself.
I really like the factory (any makers) drop in liners as they usually are really thick, tuff, and have the cargo tier slots that follow the bed side walls. I don't want scuff damage to the bare metal though. Even though with the paint and steel now a days, where's rust is almost none existant, I just don't want paint damage and the 'possibility' of rust that I won't be able to see. I won't be worrying about it flying out because factories and dealership usually bolt on the tie down anchor over it instead of cutting holes for access.
So should I just not even think about the Ford Factory Liner for my 2010 F150 and just try to find someone with reasonable hours to install the Bedrug Bedtred Liner???
BTW, I really want the liner for dent protection as much as scratch protection. I load firewood a lot durring the none winter months and have already had a full bed of firewood in it's first week of ownership. Thanks to a tarp and some careful handing, I didn't put a scratch on it but I don't want to have to worry.
Thanks everyone.

I used to live in the west suburbs of Chicago....there are quite a few Line-X dealers out that way. I remember getting quotes from several before deciding on one.
It's worth doing in my opinion, LineX is a fantastic product (have had 3, getting one in new Raptor soon). With regard to plastic drop ins, I'd rather do nothing at all or a bed mat.

Didn't even see the bit about the warranty.
It will void the warranty on the paint in the bed underneath the LineX....given that it gets scuffed heavily to apply the liner and would be completely destroyed in the event the LineX was ever deliberately chiseled out.
Federal law (Magnuson Moss warranty act) says the rest of the paint remains covered. That is, warranty coverage cannot be denied due to modification/aftermarket accessories unless they specifically caused a failure.

I agree. I just got my 2010 with a dumb factory plastic drop in and I am sure the paint is already ruined. So I am going to get my 3rd Bedrug in the next month or so. I need to order the replacement panel for when I remove the step handle before I get the Bedrug.

I loved my Bedrug, never thought of road salt contamination though... I only do spray ins for working beds. Those plastic drop ins chew off the paint under them and warp up in the summer.
When I installed my bedbug last year in 20-30 degree temps I backed my truck into a budys garage with the door still open and pointed a bullet heater at the bed to warm it up, then installed it no problems. Then we pulled it out and installed one on his cheby same method. Just a thought.
There's really no comparison between drop ins and line-x. Line-x doesn't warp and will protect against moisture instead of promoting rust and corrosion like a drop in. I would make the drive to get line-x.
This may come as a surprise to many spray in manufacturers and those that believe the marketing hype. My 99 F-150 has a Ford labeled Duraliner since it was new and the bed is in great condition. It is kept outside all the time, although it usually has a vinyl cover over it. My 2003 is also in great shape. For the cost of a spray in liner, you can get a plastic one and a good quality cover.
There are advantages to both types. Cost is obviously a difference. While my next truck will probably have a spray in type, people should rely on experience, not marketing and hearsay.

It can always be removed, too. I paid $250 from the dealer when I purchased my XLT.
We have had members post pics of their beds with paint rubbed completly off to bare metal and rust holes in the corners of the bed underneath a drop-in. It happens on some, for sure.
