Strange noise from passenger side in the rain?

First off, Let me say hello! I'm a new member here and probably will mostly be a lurker unless I have something to add to the discussion.

I just picked up a 2010 Xlt Screw, I'm loving everything about the truck except when driving in the rain. Whenever I run through a puddle I hear a tinny hollow sound like if you were to spray a hose against the side of a tin building.
The truck is really quiet otherwise, and the tinny noise seems really out of place.
Has anyone else had this problem and been able to identify what is causing this?
Thanks for any help!

I've never heard this on any ford i've driven or rode in. My friend has a 2010 Lariat and says he doesn't have this problem. Maybe call Ford? Might be missing some kind of gaurd under your truck.

I was thinking that this might be the case, but I don't see anything missing. Also I'm wondering if maybe it has something to do with the tubular steps that come with the chrome package.

Bingo.
Those hollow steps make all kinds of wierd noises from road debris. Wait till ya run over a big patch of anti-skid gravel.

God almighty! It is just the sound of the water splashing up against the undersides of the truck. Very common no big deal happens on these cars and trucks any brands.

I think you are missing the point...I've owned and driven other ford trucks and have never had the sound of the water make noise like this...I've driven many other makes and model of cars and never had the sound of splashing water make noise like this...

As far as the side steps being the culprit, I wonder if installing some mudflaps would help mitigate the noise.

Thanks again for the helpful responses!

Mine did this until I added mudguards. No problems since. It was definitely the water coming off the tires onto the underside of the stepbars.

Yes it is... and it makes your vehicle sound like a 10¢ import.
I've owned a bunch of trucks in the past but none with these hollow steps.
They could use ALOT of improvement in the design department.

I added mud guards and while it helped some with the noise, it didn't eliminate it.
It's just a band-aid on a big open wound.

I've noticed since I line-x'd my steps I don't have this issue anymore. That's not the reason I had them coated but it was a nice addition.

I was thinking about trying to pop off the endcaps and putting some dynamat or something similar inside to try to dampen the noise....

LOL. A lot of time on our hands? For a truck?

Take off end caps to put something inside? I thought these tube steps were not tubes (i.e. only closed on three sides).

Thanks

Won't help... lean down and look up...the whole underneath is open.
They have a big open "C" channel design. (which is one of the reasons I think they make so much noise... the water/debris is forced up into the the bottom and partially trapped by the design)

I suspect whom ever mentioned they had theirs Line-x'ed were talking about the flat style.

I had this same exact noise when i had the OEM tubular chrome side steps. After i removed them, and got the Amp research steps, I never heard the noise again.

These are the first 'tubular' style I've had. All my other trucks had the black platform factory boards.

If anyone wants to trade for a set of black Screw platforms let me know... I'll pay the shipping both ways.
