Extendable Rear Step

Sorry, I don't know exactly what they are called but I have seen some "hide away" rear steps on some trucks behind the running boards.

They are not on my 09 XLT scab 4x4 but I was wondering if I could put them on. Anyone else do this yet?

It's my understanding they fit long beds not short. So if you have a long bed should be able to.

They will not fit on the 5.5 bed. They will with the 6.5 or 8. They are not cheap though and the only place to get them is the dealer. You might see what Tasca Parts has them for. They will be about the cheapest you will find.

I do have a 6.5 bed so I should be good in that respect.

Amp Research makes them. You can probably get them cheaper outside of the dealer.

We may be talking apples and oranges. I was talking about the small steps at the front of the bed for getting to the inside of the bed. The one you push and it pops out and then push again and it stays hidden. You may be talking about the AMP Research power running boards. Those can be found for any size cab, while the Ford accessories pop out side steps are on the 6.5 and larger beds.

Amp research makes their own verson of Ford's Man step. It hides under the rear bumper so that you can step up onto the tailgate easier when its down. The Ford OEM steps are the ones that mount right in front of the rear wheels which allow you to reach into the bed of the truck easier. These were an option when you bought your truck, as long as you got a 6.5 or 8 foot bed.

I put one one a few weeks ago, not bad. Pricey (what isn't I guess) and yes, it really did take only 10 minutes to install:

This isn't an F150, but it shows that they do make the step to fit on the side in front of the wheel.

Pretty sure the OP is talking the side steps that can be ordered from factory or as an AM accessory. He states the hide-away steps behind the running boards. AMP Research also makes the hideaway running boards which some were referring to.
