Back up Camera Flicker

Have a 2010 FX4 w/ back up camera in rear view mirror. Anyone else notice with the cold weather that at times it does not work at all or flickers? Thought I would ask around before I take it to the dealer and play the "well it doesn't work when I'm at home" game.

Thanks

J

Take it in anyway. Yours could have a problem that Ford knows about, but will never issue a recall about.

Wait a second, did you replace your headlights & taillights w/ Harley units?

I have a similar problem with my 2010 f-150 lariat... only modifications I've done to it are installed HID's in the front headlights, backup lights that are tied into the trailer wiring reverse lights, and sound system upgrades. I've also noticed my backup camera will flicker or not even come on at all, but in my case it happens only when it's dark outside. (not tied to the cold for me, it doesn't get too cold down here in south Texas!) Let me know if you found a solution, I'd really like to get this fixed because it's annoying. And it's been doing this since before the two light modifications I made, it's pretty much done it since I got the truck.

I just started to have the same problem, the flicker, the blue screen then it shuts off.
It is now summer time, so I dont see it as a cold weather problem.

Do all of you have the back up camera in the rear view?

I do. Never had a problem. Always see the guide lines. Camera is sharp and clear.

Back up sensors will alert if covered with mud, ice, snow, etc.

i have found the same with my 2011 fx4 EB. it has something to do with the remote start. when i use the remote start and put the truck in reverse it flickers then goes blue and then goes out entirely. this only happens during the first few minutes after a remote start. it has never happened when starting the truck the traditional way. havent taken it in yet but planning on it. hope this helps.

Now that its cold again I'm having the same problem. I will take it in and try to see if its the auto start that is affecting it. Anyone else figure this one out?

No one in my area is having problems with there camera.

Time for the dealer to look at it.

Mine has something to do with the camera's night mode. It obviously has two different modes, day and night. I don't have an auto-start in my truck but I only experience this problem when my camera is in night mode. And I live in south Texas so my truck doesn't really experience enough cold to give it a problem. And mine is in the rearview display as well.

I have the same problem with the flicker and blue screen but I think I have it narrowed down to moisture in the connector. In the beginning I thought it had something to do with night-time or cooler temperatures but then one day when I was having a problem with it I unplugged the camera from the wiring harness and did nothing more than to plug it back in and the camera started working fine and continued to work fine until the day after the next rain storm. At that point I did the same thing, I unplugged it and reconnected it and it was fine until it rained again. At some point I realized the only time I had a problem with the camera was when I ran through standing water on the street and the rear tire slung water up against the connector. It usually takes several hours for the water to penetrate the connector and cause a problem but eventually the video signal goes out and you get a blue screen. I assume the water either causes a short or corrosion on the connector pin. Anyway, what I have done to try to correct the problem was to pack the connector with dielectric compound which has worked with light rain but with heavy rains like we frequently get here in Florida, I'll probably have to completely seal the connector by wrapping it in plastic or something along those lines to totally eliminate the problem.
