"stock" 4x4 lift?

Howdy-

Looking at the truck on the lot, the 4x4's all sit higher. On the rear end, I can see a small block, maybe 2", but how does the factory lift the front for the 4x4's? Is it just a spring block, like the leveling kits, or do they do something more to maintain the control arm angles?

Also, is there any difference between the FX4 lift and the 4x4 XLT "Offorad Pkg" lift?

From what Ive learned on here, the shocks and struts up front are an inch taller, also, ive been told that the spring perch is an inch higher/lower to give another inch. As far as offroad packages go, im not certain but think its just the quality of the shocks.

Stock 4x4's are 1" taller in the front than 2wd due to a taller strut and have a 1.5" block in the rear, The stock 2wd doesn't have any blocks.

I dont think there is a height difference between 4x4 & FX4 but there are upgraded parts on the FX4.

So they basically moved the spring perch and added longer shocks? Next question - this sounds like you end up with the same result as adding a leveler kit to the front (block the springs, use the droop to add ride height) - do the 4x4's have the same issues as leveled trucks with the harsh ride and front ball joint wear?

I have 0-3" adjustable ICON coilovers and cranked at 0" they are the length of OEM 4x4 shocks, I can crank them up to 3" and actually equals 4" of lift on a 2wd. Mine are currently cranked at 2", Which is 3" up from stock. I plan on adding Total Chaos UCA's which will fix the ball joint angles.

If you were to put a leveling kit on an 09+, The most height you want on a 4x4 is 2" and 2.5" on a 2wd. I know some guys on here have 2.5" on a 4x4 but it puts the CV's at a pretty steep angle. It most likely wouldnt cause any issues except maybe some excessive wear.
