Rear Bumper replacement.

Hi, Everybody.
Really mad at myself - rear-ended a freaking tree yesterday night. Totaled the left rear bumper and a step pad.
Called the dealer today - they want 825$ for parts only(bumper+step). Screw them! Probably will go with these guys - www.silverstatefordparts.com. Anybody dealt with them before?
Also will be replacing the bumper myself, so I would really appreciate any advices and tips on removing bumper etc. If anybody knows a link to a guide, that would be even better.
Thanks!

bumper replacement isnt difficult, its just attached with bolts an thankfully the only wiring is for your license plate lights.

i would check out Tasca Parts for your bumper. they're a vendor on here and usually ahve excellent pricing.

Waiting for Monday..
Meanwhile had to remove the bumper - top was bent, so the tailgate wouldn't open properly. Turned out to be easy. Didn't have touch the step pad yet.

So if anybody's following this thread - called Tasca again today. Talked to James(ext 1550). He was able to lower the price to 510$ SHIPPING INCLUDED!!!
So figured gonna give my baby a "forgive me" present - also ordered Harley tail lights=)))
My total - 660$ with shipping, picking up from UPS on thursday, probably will have to pay import tax on it. But it's ok.
So dealer parts cost 825$, Tasca 510$ - result? F U Willowdale Ford=) I always knew dealer is a ripoff, especially in Canada, but a 40% markup? Going to call them and see how much labour they were going to charge on the job=)

haha yeah, the "Stealerships" are out of controll expensive, thats if they can quote you price if they know how to find the parts in the first place. Our guys here at my Texas dealer are too lazy to even look things up for you, even when i give them parts numbers and extra info to find them. they suck. thats why i use tasca exclusivly, or wait till someone on here wants to sell or trade parts.

I bought a Buckstop for my F250 when I got hit. I ordered it with 4" backup lights and painted to match, I loved it on the Fx4.

I had a local body shop replace mine (hit something that tore my rear tire and flew up into my bumper and dented it nicely) $500, dealerships were around 650.

Picked up the parts today and installed everything. Took me about 2 hours.
The installation itself was fairly easy - I would've finished faster, if I had somebody to help me and if it wasn't -2 C in the garage=)
I'll post a quick overview - maybe will help somebody to finish faster=))
It would be easier to do, if You take the tailgate off(I didn't, because I haven't had the proper size screwdriver - would've saved a lot of time=()
First I had to take the whole step pad + bumper assembly off. Don't forget to take the plate lights out of sockets. There are 6 bolts (10mm) attaching the bumpers to the frame - 3 each side. Also the step pad in the middle is attached to frame with a couple of plastic prongs, which You have to squeeze and push out of the opening(they break off very easy, so be careful, if You are planning to re-use the step pad).
Once the whole thing was off. I took it apart - my step pad had to be replaced as well.
The bumpers are held in place by a series of same plastic prongs + 2 pushpins(closer to the center of step pad). Also I had to take off a little bracket off bent bumper. And take off plate lights sockets and a little lock in the center of the plate(by the way can anybody tell me what's it for?).
After i just had to take the new step and new left bumper out of the box and put everything together. The tricky part for me was to lock in all the plastic prongs in the bumper - the just wouldn't go in. A few hits with rubber mullet took care of it(careful - don't scratch the bumper if You have it sitting on the ground.
So now to put it all back on You better get somebody to help You to hold the bumper/step pad assembly. CAREFULLY put it back in locking the 2 plastic prongs in the frame. Watch out for bumpers - they can scratch the truck body. You should probably cover the with towels or smth - I didn't, so I ended up putting 2 little scratches, that I would have to touch up in the spring=((((
Tighten up all the screws, put the license plate back on, put the license plate lights in. Done.

So overall everything went well. Just watch out, when you are putting that bumper in. Also I would need new pushpins that connect step pas to bumper, or I may just replace them with bolts.

Here's bumper parts pic.

Good luck to everybody. Next project - Aries bull bar - will be getting it sometime in february or earlier if I manage to sell the right bumper, that I have left=))

Sorry to hear about the scratches.

A good floor jack and duct tape or multiple layers of masking will help next time. Buuuuuuut,

Rule of thumb: Never try to manhandle anything close to your paint job that you can't easily lift with one hand.

Very true. Luckily the scratches are just about 1/8 of an inch each, so its not that bad.
