Stupid Question About Automatic Climate Control
Stupid Question About Automatic Climate Control
I have a 2010 Platinum F150 SuperCrew. There is an auto button and you can select the temperature you want and I believe the truck controls the fan speed and the temperature of the air coming out? When I go out to my truck and it's 40 degrees outside but I have the temperature set to 75 degrees and the auto selected the heater doesn't start blowing air out until it the truck warms up when I'm a couple miles down the road.
Is the heater waiting until the air temperature is at least the temperature I have it set to? In the example mentioned above 75 degrees and if I had it set to 80 degrees would it be longer until the heater started blowing out air. Or is this all wrong and there is a sensor that tells it the temperature inside the truck and it starts blowing out the air from the heater when it is higher than the temperature inside the cab of the truck.
Also, is there a way to control where the air is coming out when it is set to auto?(floor, vents, windshield, etc.)

One, dig the owners manual out of the glove box. It will answer all of your directional setting questions. It all can be over-ridden with the controls. As far as your 1st question, the ATC will not run the fan until there is enough heat in the radiator to blow warm air if it is calling for warm air. So until then engine warms up, nothing is going to happen. Whether it is set at 60 or 90 it will start blowing at the same time.
It waits until warm air is available. Nice not to have cold air blowing on you until it warms up a little.
Select the Climate button then select where you want the air to come out of. Doing this takes you out of Auto. This is where you can turn on/off passenger side temp control. When the system is in Auto, there really isn't a graphic that shows which air flow (floor only, vents only, both, etc.) is in use with Auto, even under Climate as far as I can tell.
