Mine stops around $35 to $40 because I don't let it get close to empty. Most of the time I fill up at the half mark.

Its NOT a condition of the CREDIT CARD company stopping it ! ! ! Its actually not even a condition of the gas station stopping it. In most instances, gas stations don't own the pumps. whoever supplies the gas to the station owns the pumps, sets the limits, and provides the authorizations.

The local BP here will put a temporary $100 authorization on your credit card!!!!! (even if you pump $25). I've argued with BP, the supplier, and the credit card numerous times.
If your pump cuts off at $75, it IS to prevent fraud, but its not the credit card company limiting it, its not the local station doing it, its the pump owner/supplier doing it.

For example, at the BP, the temporary auth for $100 says "CANTER OIL" when I go online.
When the charge matches with the auth in the "batch processing", the charge will change to BP 08324, or what ever the store # is.

Some stations do it, some dont. An independent SHELL dealer here only does $1.00 for a temp. auth.

All this started when gas was $4 last year.

Not sure how this works with DEBIT cards, but I'd definately NOT want my $$$$ held on that card.

I never understood why people fill their tanks FULL anyway. Its useless unnecessary weight you're carrying around.
I never fill mine over 1/2.

But everyone's driving does differ.

If you were going on a long long trip, I might see why it would need a fill up.

Because I go through about a tank a week now. i was a tank every 4 commuting days at one time in my wife. There is overheard (time) in filling up, finding the gas station with the lower prices, so filling up every 2 days vs. 4,5, or once a week is great for me.

BTW, 20 gallons is less than 160 pounds that our 5000+ pound trucks don't notice.

I always use a CC at pump for gas. Less time, and 3% rebate. Anyway, I've had it cut out at $50, $75, and $100 before. But I've also charged more than $100 all using the same card. Just mattered which station I used. I usually just swipe again to top off.

I wouldn't buy gas from BP--or any other related station--unless I was running on fumes. Pi55 on them!

I fill mine up about 2x a week. If I filled up at half a tank, I'd always be at the gas station. The $75.00 cut off is a P.I.T.A.

I have read several studies not letting your tank go below 1/4 is better for mileage and sediment at the bottom of your tank and moisture as well. Who knows.
