More confused then ever about leveling?!?
More confused then ever about leveling?!?
I have spent the last few weeks thinking about leveling my truck and getting 35" tires for it. I have also spent the last 4 hours looking around this forum and reading all about leveling kits. I can say that I am more confused and am still not sure what kit to go with. I've seen kits on here as well as Ebay, some seem to be priced well/cheap, one even talked about not having to invert the front strut 180 degrees (first time I heard about that). Here is what I am looking for.....
I have an 09 F150 4x4 super crew cab XLT, 17" wheels.
I want to keep the stock wheels for now (more of a money reason then any other).
I am looking for a complete kit and don't want to have to worry about rubbing, bumping, shaking at high speeds or anything else negative.
Lifting the front 2.5"? lifting the back 1.5"? Seems to be a consistent theme.
Any insight, feed back or even the "perfect kit" would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Your going to have to do some (maybe a lot) of trimming to fit 35's in there, that or you will have to have a skinnier tire. 33's with a leveling kit are the norm, and some still have to trim, again depending on width and rims.
I did the Auto Springs front 2.5" and replaced the rear block with a 3". I have 35's on with very little rubbing. It all depends on the backspacing of aftermarket wheels. If your staying with the stock wheel you should have no problem fitting 35's.
Auto Springs offers the best front level kit. I went the readylift 3" block in the rear replacing the stock block. The readylift will not rust and has the tabs like the stock ones.

I have the Rough Country 2.5" kit that includes blocks and shocks for the back, 1" i think. The kit is designed to run 35x12.50 on the stock rims w/o any other modifications. Which I assume means it won't rub. Or at least won't rub much. I'm still running the stock 275/65R18's though, so I can't say for sure one way or another about the rubbing.

I'm running a 35x12.50x17. My wheels are 9" wide with a 4.25" Backspacing. I get a little rubbing while turning only in reverse. I did very little trimming on the plastic. Not sure if it will work with 20" wheels, just depends on the width.

nice truck you got there! im debating between your set up or just a 2" kit upfront. im suprised you are able to run such a low backspace, from what ive seen online, people say the most aggressive you can go is a 5.71 backspace with a 34/35" tire. does your truck sit level? any concerns with the upper control arms or effects on ball joints? like i said, i really want to do the same set up as yourself but want to make sure the front and rear are level and its worth the extra height.

A 5.7" backspace would push the wheel under the truck almost another 1.5 inches more than his already sit. At 4.25", his wheel mounts to the hub only .25" off center (forgive me for not calculating offset to mm). The reason people say a 5.7 max backspace is any more would most likely cause wheel (not just tire) rub on suspension components.
westpoint, please give more info on your set up and how much trimming was involved

I'm running 325/60/20's on the stock 20" rims on my 2010 FX4. I used the Autospring levelling kits (f&r) off ebay with 1/4" spacers on the wheels (no issues) and had to trim the plastic under the front bumper but other than that there was no problems.

Actually i just checked and my wheels have 5.25" Backspacing. My Bad! I only had to trim about an inch of the lower grey plastic on the front. Only rubs in reverse at certian angles. Everything else has plenty of clearence.
