No grab handle?? What gives??
My old truck used to have that grab handle and I used it all the time. I don't like tugging on the steering wheel from the side. They're not designed for that I would think.
Anyway, I just looked through the airbag diagrams (AllData account) and I don't see any airbags in the pillar. There is one in the steering wheel, side of the seat and along the roof above the windows. Besides, why would there be an airbag in the pillar only on the driver side? The passenger side has the handle.

If I wanted a lowered truck, I wouldn't have bought a 4X4. Not taking away from lowered rides though-talk about handling! Yowza!

x2!! My 08 FX4 has one and I use it all the time with no problems. I have an 09 F150 4x4 for work and when I got it, that's the first thing I noticed...no grab handle on driver's side. Ford def cheaped out!!

Yeah, I'm sure that's it. They just cheaped out...........
Not a whole bunch of snow in Texas. Lowering a 4X4 is an easy way to stuck in the snow.
I used to laugh at my co-workers Chevy 4X4 ext. cab, because it was 3 or 4 inches lower from the factory than my Supercrew. He asked me once: "why is your truck so much higher?" I answered: "Because I drive a real truck, not a Chevy." He didn't care for the comment too much
Yours looks cool though

The factory step bars are mounted closer to the body on the 2010's than the 2003's were. With the semi-smooth plastic on the bars, it's fairly easy for your foot to slip off the bar if your using the steering wheel to pull in with while standing on the bar.
I'm not handicapped. I'm 6'0" and about 200, so I'm not a fat **** trying to squeeze in, I just got used to grabbing the handle with my left hand, left foot on the bar and swinging inside in one smooth motion. You do that for 8 years, and you get used to it ya know?
I'm still gonna look for a way to install a handle. There's got to be a way.

But still, even if airbag was there, why not handle too I agree? I was just in a car (stupid GMC crossover thing) who had grab handles and those even had a n airbag sign on them.
- Super duty subject to different crash stds I think. Plus different air bag/canopy vs. 150.
- I think they did cheap out. Gm twins lost theirs in 07 so "we don't need em either".
- There are posts indicating damaged wheels from too much pulling, but I'm not going to take the time to look them up.
- Some guys who don't "need them" don't live in cold climates with ice. That can change how you climb up into your truck. Try it when there is 1/2 inch of ice on your step and now don't use the wheel, see how it works.
