Dealership help with TSBs

Well just got off the phone with the dealership, and as most would guess I am having issues getting them to understand and duplicate the problems.

I was told that the shudder and lack of power is a by product of the drive-by-wire throttle body. I was also told that it is normal for the 6 speed trans to have these issues and that it was the design of the trans.

The slight bump felt when at a stop was fixed by resetting the computer.

A coworker of mine went back and forth w/his dealership on his 2010 4x4 too. They finally re-flashed the PCM on his truck and the shifting shudder is gone. I had the same issue w/my 2005 4x4 a few months after buying new. At first the service dept. looked at me like I was from another planet. I talked with the service mgr. and explained the issue and even provided the TSB's that the other member's had posted here. (This site is the Best). They finally got their act together and re-flashed my truck too. My truck hasn't acted up since.

I really hope your truck is good to go.

Well just got back from picking the truck up.

First off, the tech looked at me like I was an idiot when I had a list of issues with the corresponding TSB attached for reference.

The lack of power long 1st to 2nd gear shift was repaired by stating the normal electric drive by wire is operating by design. I asked him if he did a datalog but wouldn't explain what he did other than telling me the truck is operating as designed. The 25+ miles they put on the truck tells me he alteast test drove the truck. I am at a loss on what they did to get paid from Ford for their time. It still feels as if I still have the problem but will need to drive it more to double check. I think they rest the computer for the second fix.

The shudder of trans issue was repaired by adding a qt of trans fluid and resetting the KAM. It hasnt done it in the 5+ miles I drove home.

Could not duplicate the tapping at idle-- I am ok with this one since it only does it when the temp outside is very warm and today it is 40* outside.

Am I wrong in asking them to fix these issues on a truck that has 3000 miles??
Seems like a new dealership is in order.

No, not at all. Don't accept their crap attitude. I had to discuss my issue back in 2005 with my sales guy, the sales manager and the service manager to make them understand this is unacceptable service after the sale. I had been a loyal customer having purchased two new trucks previous to this one. They need you more than you need them. Make them understand that any way you see fit. Best of luck.

If they won't see it your way it would be best to find another dealer. I need to bring mine in for, of all things, a couple of rear defrost strips not working. That oughta be fun...

If the only problem left is lack of power, there might not be anything wrong with it. It's the transmission and engine. It is supposed to be fixed for 2011 with the new engines and updated transmission. On the other hand, if you don't have the latest reprogramming for the transmission, that may also be a cause for the lack of power.

Here is another thread on throttle response and what to ask for when you go to a different dealer:

"I just had the TSB reprogramming of the PCM and TCM for the tranny. I didn't have too much of a lag issue most of the time just occasionally. Mine was a late Mar 10 build and needed the reprogramming. Much smoother and responsive so far. They said that the adaptive part would start anew. So far so good."

More:
"Just tell them to check for any TSBs on the truck. I told mine that when starting out from a stop with slow acceleration it felt like the tranny was shifting up/down or maybe slipping. I told them there was a TSB out on the tranny for 2010s.

Service response/cause: Road test cold. Feel surge between shifts, clear trans KAM and reprogram PCM and TCM per TSB 10-24-1. Road tests OK, (N/C)"

What I think I will do is wait until the next oil change and take it somewhere else to see if I get the same answers.

Because the cleared the KAM I will need to wait and see if that has corrected the problem. Now that I look back I think my biggest issue was that the tech didn't explain what or how he fixed it and just told me that it was working as designed. Although the lack of power and hesitation I was told is just how it is going to be and basically to deal with it.

Seems like everyone that I read had the TSB fixed went fairly smooth and mine was not so much. Time will tell.

I read through the attached thread and I am going to try the "throttle fix" outlined in that thread.
Thanks

I've got the same issue. I think they had never done one before, they didn't even drive it which is protocol for the tsb. I think I'll try another dealership and see if they can figure it out.

I tried the "throttle fix" but without some type of real conclusive data I have to say it didnt do anything.

Well after giving the dealer the benefit of the doubt on the effectiveness of resetting the KAM I have to say I am disappointed. As I suspected shortly after the first drive and a few miles the same issues reappeared. The issues are bothersome.

I will give it some more time and just try another dealership. I just figured that with the purchase I would send the work to them. This is after buying my 5th car/truck from the same dealership. Disappointment with a relationship that has spanned 12+ years with the same salesman and company.
