2010 vs 2011
2010 vs 2011
I have read all of the long threads on the new 2011 F150's and a great many of you feel that the new 5L is a much superior engine than the 5.4.
That said I am in my mid 50's, I never tow anything or ever carry much of a load. I seldom if ever step on it, so to speak. I like the roomyness of the cab in a truck as I am 6'5". I currently drive a 2005 Lariat and am looking to upgrade.
I am under the impression that the 5.4 with the newer 6 speed tranny is some what more fuel effficient than my current lariat Screw. I am looking at a Supercab for my next truck.
With my meek driving habits, and the fairly heavily discounted units being offered here in Canada in the 2010 models, will I notice a significant improvement in fuel bills from what I currently drive?
Thanks Greg

Just look at the difference in dollars you are spending for the 2 trucks and how long you figure you will keep it. If you trade often go 2011. If not and the new features don't do anything for you, get the 2010. It is up to you. Personally, I am looking to get a 2011 with the 5.0. If you are saving a few thousand $'s on the 2010, that'll buy quite a bit of gas to make up for the lower mpg of the 2010.
Just got a 2010 Screw with the 5.4 and 6 Speed, the transmission does make a NOTICEABLE difference over my 06 Lariat 5.4 Scab. I have also touched 20mpg driving 70mph on the interstate, who knows if I'm even broken all the way in.

I have looked high and low here in Alberta for a truck with this engine and the only ones I can find are on used fleet vehicles in the 2009 model year with about 50,000 kilometers on them. The dealers that have these want around $25,000 for them, plus they all seem to be Screws and I am wanting a Supercab for my next daily driver.
I sat in a 2010 SC yesterday and I can't believe how much more driver leg room there is compared to my 05 Lariat.

Keep your 05 for a bit longer and see how the real world gas mileage and power proves out on the 2011's.
I betcha the new 3.7 V-6 will have plenty of power for that, and being the base engine I'd bet that you will be able to find trucks with it that aren't loaded up with expensive options. Of course, you can always order a truck equipped the way you want.

Maybe the Screw
I have now found a couple of dealers in Calgary that have the 4.6 engine in a couple of XLT's in Crews, not exactly what I was hoping for, but choices are very limited.
Gas today here in Edmonton just went to $1.02 cents per liter.
Thanks Gents

I have a 2010 F-150 Supercab 4X4 4.6 3V,6 speed auto and 3.73 gears.I had a 2007 F-150 Supercab 4X4 5.4 3V,4 speed auto and 3.55 gears.The 6 speed works great behind the 4.6 3V engine i raced them both and the 2010 4.6 3V ran a 16.257 AT 84.89 mph in the 1/4 mile the 2007 5.4 3V ran a 16.653 at 83.23 mph in the 1/4 mile.

I will say the transmission in my '11 is a big improvement over my '09.
The '09 six speed just was never quite right, no matter how many flashes it had.
The funny thing is the 6spd in my '10 Expedition has been perfect since new.....Go figure.

I thought the tranny in the 09 and 11 were the same but I could be wrong
It may be the same basic transmission (I'm not sure), but they've added the manual shifting, ability to lock out 5th and 6th gear, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if there were other adjustments for the new engines, like shift points, shift aggressiveness, etc.
