My next truck will definitely be an Ecoboost.

 

My 2014 or 2015 will most likely have an Eco-Boost....... Still not 100 percent behind the ecoboost, but once it shows its quality and durability (it will). Then I will be sold.....

That will be the deal maker for me.

As impressive as the 0-60 time was, that is really irrelevant to me. I don't really care how quickly I get up to speed, I care about maintaining that uphill. The 3.2 second margin of victory after a 3.5 run doesn't really amount to much of an advantage for me either.

Still it is awesome to see Ford do this with a 3.5 liter V6. Now let's get those formal fuel economy numbers.

I am still trying to decide between a 5.0 Ford and a 5.7 Dodge. I have a great Ford dealer that is easy to work with and that weighs heavily in Ford's favor.

I've had 2 Rams both with the hemis the first one didn't have the MDS (or whatever the thing is called to drop cylinders at cruise) and performed pretty good - 17ish hwy mpg. The second one with MDS was bad. Lucky to get 14 hwy mpg and didn't perform worth a hoot. Both interiors were barely acceptable. Poor fit & finish. I think the latest version Ram has a lot nicer interior but still has MDS (I think). No more Rams for me.

i think my next truck will have the ecoboost. assuming i can get 25MPG on NORMAL driving.
if it can only do 20 than im going to be hesitant. imagine what the programmers (SCT and so on) are going to do to this motor! these motors are going to be able to make some serious power!

According to the Free Press, Lapine said that the 365-horsepower twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine and its 420 pound-feet of twist will be priced $1750 above the entry-level engine, a naturally aspirated 3.7-liter V-6. According to Ford's website, the base 2011 F-150 XL will start at $23,390 after delivery charges, so assuming the EcoBoost engine is available with all trim levels and all cab and body configurations, the starting price would come out to just $25,140.

It is $750 over the 5.0 which is a $1000 option over the standard 3.7 V6, making the Ecoboost a $1750 option total.

 

So you got worse mileage with the MDS function? I think it can be turned off but that remains to be seen. Also, Dodge does not have Ford's reputation for reliability. Also, also, the Ford 6 speed has much nicer gear choices for highway running.

Ford if you are watching please publish a torque curve for the new 5.0 . . .

STX does not have EB so STX buyers won't have to worry about the cost of EcoBoost.

If I'm buying a FX4, CC XLT 4x4, Lariat, KR, Platinum I do not have the choice of the entry level V6. So the choice will be do you go with the standard 5.0 or add EcoBoost for $750.? Adding EcoBoost will be a no brainer to me. $750 is nothing. You'll make that back in gas savings.

 

Where did you hear that the STX will not be available with the EB?

AFAIK, every trim level (save for the Lariat Limited, Harley Davidson, and Raptor) will have an EB option; as well as every configuration except for a regular cab shortbed.

 

If you go to the Ford F150 web site, then compare models like the XL and STX you will see that the EB is available on the XL but not the STX. It's a shame because I'd like an STX with the EB engine.
