Help Picking out new Truck - 2010 or 2011

what year?

what engine (prefer 302.. what year were they avail?)?

tranny (if appl)?

package (xl, xlt, lariat)?

power what?

what breaks on these new models?

had a prob with my truck (coils, injectors (maybe), knocking, and i lost faith and trust.. even the unbaiased mechanic said trade it without me asking..

i have an xlt lariat 2005 with everything cept moon roof.. want a reliable vehicle.. maybe for xmas..

don't need 4x4, power anythin (cept windows and locks (insert ps and brake joke here)) leather is a big pain and it ages badly.. so none of that..

love power, looks and gadgets..

what would you reccomend? (F250 XLT not out of the Q.. just price wise.. ouch!) and what rebates to look forward to? should i wait til january?

I have some really bad news for you. If you really have your heart set on a 302, you'll have to look for a 1996. That's the last year they were available in an F-150.

The 2011 F150 also has a 5.0 that is a 302. Not the same engine, but the size is the same.

Buying a 2010 now will save you about $4k over buying a 2011 when they are available. The 2011s have all new engines. You have to decide whether having the latest and greatest engine (and unproven) is worth $4k. There's your decision.

^^^ That's what I was going to say. Dealers are trying to get rid of the '10s now so they'll be more likely to work a deal with you

Your decision has to be based on what you want to use the truck for.

Here's what I am going to get based on my requirements:

What year: 2011

What engine: 5.0

Tranny: 4x4 Automatic

Package: XLT Supercrew

Personally - I have been waiting for more powerful engine options. The ecoboost may have power, but it needs time in the field to prove it's durability to me. I would rather go with the more proven engine like the 302.

You can get a 2010 XLT Screw with exactly what you want out the door for about 23,000..
You just described my newest ride exactly and all it takes is haggling skills.

How is the 5.0 more proven than the EB?

I agree with the others. The Ecoboost and the new 5.0L are both new to the truck line. However, the Ecoboost was available in other models since the 2010 model year. The 5.0L has only been available in the 2011 Mustang so far.

To the OP, your biggest decision is to decide whether you want the latest and greatest engines and paying for it, or if you're more comfortable with a tried-and-true combination and saving several thousand dollars. The 2010 models are still very good picks, especially for the prices you can get them at right now; they're just not going to be as fast/powerful or efficient as the new 2011's (even the base 3.7L V6 will give the old 4.6L a run for its money). You won't have a choice transmission-wise, all 2010's and 2011's come with the same 6R80 six speed automatic transmission (except for the 4.6 2v? if it was even still available in 2010). Lariats come standard with leather, so your best bet will be the XLT or even an STX for an all-around appealing yet functional interior that still comes with the basic conveniences. Personally, I'd pick the STX over the XLT but that's just because I don't really care for chrome and the STX looks pretty sharp with the available appearance package.

The 4.6 2v was the base engine in 2010, and it had the old 4 speed.

The only resemblance the 5.0 has to the "302" is they both have 8 cylinders. It is a completely new engine from the ground up.

These dealers are going to have a very hard time unloading the 2010 trucks. I have a feeling that is why Ford is building the 2011's so late. The pre-2011 engines are absolute junk... see all the threads on how awful the 5.4 3V is for performance, towing, and fuel mileage. The three new engines will run circles around the old pos engines... unless you get back into the 5.4 2V... that was a BEAST of an engine!!

I have waited for 6 years now for Ford to come up with a replacement of the 5.4 and these new engines are very nice. I will be trading in a 2010 Cadillac CTS-V 6spd manual for a 6.2L F150 supercrew 4x4. I cannot wait!!!!!!!

ok.. so far it seems i should go with an xlt or stx.. stx is 4x4, no? i don't use 4x4 even though we own a ranch (never seen it.. lol)

2010 has the ****ty tritons from what i read, so they are a no-go.. 2011 it is..

now the engine.. the 302 is not the same.. fudge!!!! i thought they would be..

since i like power, and the engine is not the same, i would lean 6.2..

now everyone says supercrew.. i have a scab.. maybe 20 times in 5 years did more than 1 person ride along with me, so saving a few pennies and going with the SCAB again..

anything else i should consider? I ma going to the ford site and typing in these requirements to see what pops up and at what price..
