Factory Stereo Quality
Factory Stereo Quality
What is the overall opinion of the factory stereo sound on 2010 F-150 XLT/FX4 without upgrading to the more expensive Sony?
I don't mind swapping a stereo but at the same time hate tearing apart the factory dash. If the stock sound is lousy, will just a speaker upgrade help or does the head unit need replacing?

Greg,
There are lots of threads on this topic already. The general consensus is that the stock setup sucks. Some disagree, but not many.
As far as improving it goes, some find that a simple speaker swap helps immensely, others feel the need for more radical approaches.
Do some reading through the forum and you'll come up with some great opinions and suggestions.

I have the stock one that comes in the FX4. It's okay, but nothing fancy. You can easily find it's faults if you push it at all. I could not justify the Sony upgrade.
I do however prefer to spend my audio monies at home where I have complete control over the environment.

I'd replace the factory speakers first and see what you think. It will be a big improvement. If you plan on replacing the HU you will need to upgrade the speakers anyway.
