CASTROL EDGE Synthetic Oil?

Has anyone tried this oil?

CASTROL EDGE Full Synthetic?

I seen it today at Wal-Mart. Went to the website for research

http://www.castroledgeusa.com/

claims to have 8x better wear protection than Mobil 1.

Also better than their own Syntec Brand (Castrol).

if I'm gonna switch, I want a good brand (locally available).

Thanks!

Cheap. Plentiful. Available @ Wallymart. Already Better than M1. Factory fill & recommended.

Save yer money - you won't find a significantly better oil for yer truck - certainly not at this price.

The reason that Castrol can make such a claim and not get hammered by Mobil is that Mobil One 5w-20 oils have been failing IVA testing for almost 2 years now. Mobil has been silent in that regards. I guess they feel like their oil is still selling to the die hards so why make it an issue- who knows. But just about anything is better than Mobil One 5w-20 especially for yer Triton engine and the cams.

Castrol Edge as I remember is a Gp III mostly with a splash of PAO which makes it similar to the base of the M1. Nothing really there that's remarkable, just kinda ho-hum at best. The add pack in Edge is fairly straight forward and again, nothing there remarkable. Yeah, it's a good oil but is it worth a premium price over something like Motorcraft? Not in my book. There are very few premium oils out there that yield premium results. Most have a hard time staying with Motorcraft oils. If you just want a premium oil and it does actually have something in the bottle other than the usual, look for Kendall GT with Titanium. While there isn't a bunch of titanium in the formulation, it does bring a little more high heat protection to the game. Considering the time of year, you certainly don't need it.

CASTROL EDGE is NOT available in 5w-20,

only 5W-30.

Would that hurt my engine in my 2010 F150, although it recommends 5w-20?

I only run the oil Ford recommends. They recommend a certain viscosity for a reason.

Considering you have a 4.6 2v and none of the cam phasers or any of the other oil activated stuff on yer engine, yeah you could use it but there's no real reason to spend the extra bucks a unless it just makes you feel good.

I'll assume either that it isn't available in your area in 5w-20 or that BP hasn't released it yet. There's a bunch of it in Houston at BP in 5w-20.

BMW uses castrol synthetic. That being said, we don't drive BMWs.

I don't understand why folks don't use factory recommended products- I'm presuming we are all still under warranty, why give Ford an excuse to deny your coverage?

I use amsoil 0-20 but that just me. I used to use Mobil 1.

Anyone elso notice this SEMA truck? http://news.pickuptrucks.com/2010/11...oost-v-6-.html

Squeezing out all the mpg they can, they use Amsoil?

I see the new EB uses 5W30 vs 20. The other new engines continue with 5W20. Turbo thing I assume.

some think they can reinvent the wheel and sometimes they do but they take the risk of FMC denying coverage and all they need is an excuse i will stick with the motorcraft oil and spark plugs

Sometimes its actually cheaper to get other oils than motorcraft. I like running full synthetic and can get pennzoil platinum w/ bosch premium filter for about 30bucks. But I am in key West.

Before anyone rags on him about Bosch oil filters, they are made by Purolator.
