Truck had to be towed last night...

It was pouring rain and I was on a back country two lane road driving about 35 mphs while making switch backs down the mountain. I got on the throttle about %25 after exiting a turn to go to the straight away and the truck just rev'd. So I turned down the stereo to see what was the problem and the truck was running but not responding. I checked to see if it slipped into neutral but it was still in drive. I tried numerous times to speed up but it was just coasting. I thought for sure it was the transmission so I decided to coast to a wide spot to pull over and shut it down. I turned the truck off and then back on and it started fine and I was back on my way. Another 1/4 mile down the road the engine died and the oil light came on and started pinging. I pulled it over, popped the hood and saw that my oil filter and everything else was fine, no leaks and not missing.

So I started it again and drove about 500 feet and it died again. I gave up and called the tow company. Now, my truck is a 2010 that I received in 10/2009 and it has just over 22k miles on it. No problems at all other than the right rear window didn't want to roll up one time but it hasn't done it since. Of course, the dealer was closed last night and tomorrow and I leave to go back to work for a week or two tomorrow morning.

Anyone had any problems with their truck stalling on them without any other signs? I'm thinking it must just be a sensor or something but I hope it's big, cause a new engine would be nice...

The closest thing that has happened to me was when I was in the mountains and descending. I was hauling a decent load an had the tow/haul engaged. The tranny down shifted and the engine revved like mad...and the tranny temps started to climb.

However I never lost the ability to accelerate. Was the traction control icon on? Several 2007-08 Expeditions have had issues with loss if throttle response while the truck was on and otherwise fine. Google "expedition traction control fault" to see what I'm talking about.

Don't know if that helps, but may get you started down the right path

PS this was sent on my phone, so please ignore spelling and wrongly "auto-corrected" words

EDIT: corrected my "phone" spelling

The problem turned out to be the intake tube coming out of the airbox was cracked and that's what caused the problems or atleast that's what the dealer is saying... The new tube has been installed and the truck runs fine but who knows it might happen again?

Well, I first thought the same thing, however, the MAF (mass airflow sensor) is located very close to the air box. This being the case, if the tube was cracked, some air could have bypassed the MAF (by the crack) and therefore the truck might have thought it wasn't pulling in enough air.

That being said, I find it very hard to believe that a crack would do that. It would have to be a HUGE crack to make that big of a difference I would think. I'm no expert, just my $0.02.

My pal's, daughter's 2010 is acting like yours.....Been to the dealer twice and they can't replicate it to find the problem.

I'm curious as to what they find on yours.

If you read the whole thread, the problem has been solved.

Wow, that does sound like a pretty extreme issue for what basically would seem like a simple vacuum leak.

Take the hose out and see how the truck acts. You can then see if the dealer is full of it or not.
