engine knocking

i have a 2010 f150 with the 5.4. i hear a slight knocking noise when i accelerate, this really bothers me because the truck is brand new. I tried higher octane gasses and it still does it.

Take it to the dealer. That's what the warranty is for.

Join the cam phaser club! If you park with the right side of the truck close to a wall, hold your foot on the brake in drive, and run the rpm's up to about 1200 with a hot engine, you can really hear her knock!

Be glad you are under warranty, my 09 has 66,000 miles and it is an $1800 bill to fix, with no promise it won't return in another 5,000 miles...

my truck has only 6000 miles on it, why does it already have this problem? this has really bothered me. What will eventually happen if it is not fixed?

I took my 08 explorer with 3valve 4.6 to two dealers , had them listen to it tap and clatter away at 800 to 1200 . They told me it is normal and showed me a bulletin from ford stating it is normal vct noises and not attempt a a repair. I explained that it did not make this noise the first 11,000 miles. They still fell back on the its normal explanation.

Just because you can hear it knock, does not mean the phaser is bad. These engines are noisy on the top anyway.

Phaser's do go bad, but I doubt what everyone is hearing is a bad phaser.

Have a look at Tech Time Plus video #22 "5.4 VCT Theory & Operation" at:

http://www.flatratetech.com/index.php?categoryid=4

Within that segment are audio clips of good and bad phaser's.
