Unhappy 2009 Platinum Tailgate Applique Problems

I have had my truck in the shop four times to get the tailgate applique fixed on my truck and now it is going back for a fifth attempt...

1st attempt they scratched the tailgate a dozen places some down to the metal and it was pulling away when I went to pick it up!

2nd time they put two layers of double sided tape to hold it up there then made a poor attempt to paint around everything to hide the scratches. Still seperated...

3rd attempt they sent it to a professional body shop and they took it apart repainted the whole tailgate again replaced the applique, the handle, the ford emblem, and it looked OK until the Applique came loose again a few weeks later.

Dealer then refused to work on the truck again and I had to find another dealer.

4th attempt with new dealer was another fiasco with multiple scratches in the paint and on the applique, the camera housing was broken where it attaches to the tailgate and the clips that hold the Ford emblem on were broken and they even tried to stick it back up there with windsheild adhesive !!?! The applique even looks like it is trying to come off already near the corner where they tried to pry it off with a great big nasty screwdriver that they left in the bed of the truck....

Now they want a 5th crack at it.......

The tailgate on my 6000 mi black truck has been violated in more ways than a Nevada Prostitute!!!

3 Layers of paint... and now it needs a 4th paint job to get it close to what it was when this crap started....WTF?

I am at the end of my rope...

What am I supposed to do?

STOP Right There!! Dont Let anyone else touch your truck !! Demand a ford rep to come out to see your tail gate explain all that has happend!! you want a new tail gate from ford and a brand new applique . you want to take it to a body shop in your area and have new gate painted once and camera ect switched over from your gate and new applique installed!! Do not let a dealer bodyshop do this!! this can all be done under ford warranty! what bone heads... this is a 50k+ truck there messing with have Ford rep get it right for you!! Good Luck

I agree with 399... Call Ford directly and explain the issue and how many times the dealer has screwed it up

Yes indeed, call FOMOCO directly, and they will assign you a case rep. Ford WILL take care of you. When I had my leak supposivly fixed 5 times, they damn near replaced the entire crew cab interior, reimbursed me for personal property damaged up to the amount of my payment, and made payments while it was in the shop. Be stern, but give them room to work, its their job to make you happy, I love my 50k truck, and ONLY because of the customer service Ford has, I was about an inch away from trading my problems away.

Tell them what you want done to make it right, they really have no choice, and take care of it for you.

Let us know the outcome & best of luck

What was wrong with it in the first place? It was coming off?

And if you search here long enough, you'll find posts from people who can't seem to get the silver thing to come off no matter what they try to do! I'd contact SailorDon and trade him!

There is a lot to be said about having a cheaper plain truck that you don't really feel like you need to give a crap about.... the less ya got... the less there is to worry about I guess.

Everready,

I just got my '09 Platinum back from the dealership after the second trip for this exact problem. In my case, the top of the driver's side kept popping out. The first trip, they took the trim off and replaced the adhesive behind the trim, then re-applied it. A week later, in the exact same spot, the exact same problem began happening again. I took it back last week, referenced the TSB (you can find it here: http://bit.ly/bQKQmB) and asked that they swap out the entire trim, with my logic being that for it to happen in the same place twice, there's a defect/bend in that trim. They did, and thus far, the trim is holding steady. I'm not going to lie that I go by and check it out to make sure this hasn't resurfaced just about anytime I get in my truck.
