Low Fuel Question

Am I right in recalling that when the 2010 hits "Low Fuel mark" at 50 miles that you still have 1/16th of the 35.7 gallon tank left which would leave you with 2.23 gallons left to put around on?

Am I right in recalling that when the 2010 hits "Low Fuel mark" at four beeps/10 miles that you still have 1/16th of the 35.7 gallon tank left which would leave you with 2.23 gallons left to put around on?

How low is the lowest people have gotten? Does it continue to estimate "mileage to end" down to the 30 mile or 20 mile mark remaining?

This is my first tank of gas in the truck and I almost want to get it low to test it's limits, without running out of fuel on the side of the road (obviously).

The miles to empty display is based on the average MPG which the truck has been calculating, so it doesn't indicate a specific amount of fuel left in the tank.

It will continue to count down until it gets to zero.

I was curious in the same way, and overruled my common sense, and contined to drive the truck after the indicator said zero miles. I went about 17 miles more until I got to my gas station (had a one gallon can in the back to compensate for my stupidity). And then filled up with 27.3 gallons in a 26 gallon tank, not topping off, stopped when the automatic shut off stopped pumping.

But not a good idea anyway, since even with a new truck there is crap in the bottom of the tank, so I generally just go by the guage and fill up at 1/4 tank, or at the 50 mile warning at the least.

I've gone 23 miles on Zero to empty. BTW the fuel pump always picks up from the bottom of the tank. Doesn't matter if's full or empty. There's also a filter on the pump. So stuff sloshing around in the bottom of the tank is always at the bottom with the pump. Where do you buy gas that lets crap in your tank?

I thought the fuel pickup floated on top and always fed from the top 2 or 3 inches of fuel. that way, it wouldn't ever pickup the junk and water at the bottom of the tank.
There is more crap in gas than most people think.
When my low fuel light goes on, I have 4 gallons left, on a 36 gallon tank.

Usually I fill up around 1/2 but I like keeping my tank topped off. Will run it down to about 1/8 of a tank every so often just to fill up with fresh fuel though. I don't like getting so low the fuel light comes on.
