New to Forum--New '10 STX F-150

Hey everyone! There was no sticky for introducing yourself to the forum like a few other forums have -- so I figured I'd introduce myself in a thread and ask a few questions/suggestions at the same time...

I just got a new 2010 Ford F-150 STX, Black with Stone Cloth interior. I love it so far and the computer has calculated 17.0 average MPG so far. I hope it goes up a little bit, I mainly do all highway driving.

-What mods would you suggest right from the beginning?

-I'm looking at doing new headlights (projectors) with HID's, any suggestions for headlight housing? Maybe the light bar behind the grill--what metal are people using to form those brackets? Also going to put blinkers in the mirrors, I have the block-off plates so it looks like I can take them out and put in the blinkers.

-I'm definitely going to update to a Pioneer deck with navigation.. I saw someone on here who installed a sub/amp box under the rear seats, I just don't know if I want to put something permanent there. I would want to be able to unplug it if need be and still have a functional stereo without the "bump"... Gotta ask some questions on that post.

Other than those, I'm not sure what else I'd like to do.. Sound off by replying with what you all have done and wish you would have done from the beginning rather than later in the miles!!

Thanks! Happy to join this forum! Looking forward to doing my part in helping in any way I can.

Rob, or any other forum member--

For the side mirrors--did you have the block off plates? If you did, and you put the turn signals in--how difficult was it?

The projector halo headlights--how hard was that? How much were your black projector headlights?

The grill that you did, that's not over the factory grill is it? It looks like that's the only grill you have in the garage--so how did you replace the grill with the grill you now have?

The Gotts mod -- what exactly is that? I looked up in the forum but no one explains the reason people do it?

Welcome! The Gotts mod is to remove an air restriction to provide a little more power.

Thanks -- I tried Googling it but couldn't find anything. Seems like an easy mod. This is the first truck I've owned. I've had a Dodge Neon SXT and a Nissan Rogue. Needed something with the bed to carry my motorcycle and other things for the house needs with 4x4.

Did you see this in the index of the Articles and How To section?

https://www.f150online.com/forums/ar...10-w-pics.html

For horns, use the Advanced Search and enter Train Horns.

The projector halo headlights--how hard was that? How much were your black projector headlights? The Halo Headlights were very easy they are a true plug and play install. I ordered them from Saber Sports on E-Bay they were $295 + shipping.

The grill that you did, that's not over the factory grill is it? It looks like that's the only grill you have in the garage--so how did you replace the grill with the grill you now have?No the grill that is on my truck is a T-Rex Billett Alum grill. The old grill has to be cut out for this to be mounted. I got the T-Rex grill from American Truck Auto Accessories

The Gotts mod -- what exactly is that? I looked up in the forum but no one explains the reason people do it?The Gotts Mod is nothing more than removing a snorkal in the air box. My 2 cents its not worth the 10 min to do it. I didnt see any differance in power and seemed to lose abit on the MPG. Only real benifit I found is that you could hear more of a V8 drone than anything else.
Good luck and remember search is your friend, And only stupid question is an unasked question..

Welcome to the forums and congratulations. Leveling kits are a popular mod to balance out the truck.

For the headlights, did you have to remove the front fender/bumper cover to install them? I will do a search for a sticky/how-to---on my old car I had to pull the front bumper off (the bumper cover) in order to put the headlights in due to the shape.

No you dont have to remove the fenders. There are 2 bolts on top and 1 on the side faceing the grill right behind the mud flap looking thing..(lol) I think they are 10mm bolts. Once they are removed you just carefully pull the headlight straight out. You will see on the fender side on the light that there are 2 guide post and clips that just clip in to the fender. The rest is a plug and play set up (at least the one's I installed are plug and play).Hope that help.. Let me know if you need anything else to help you out.
