Any used a battery memory saver gizmo in the lighter?
Hi,
I'm looking at doing some 2-way radio installations on a 2010, and disconnecting the battery seems to have implications on the ECU with having to relearn fuel strategy/security system....etc. Has anyone out there used one of those 9V battery connectors on the cig lighter when replacing the battery or doing electrical work?
I'd definitely like to avoid deploying the airbags with this electrical Tom Foolery.
Thanks,
JD

Once you pull the battery cable, wait at least 30 minutes before starting the project. There's a capacitor that stores power to keep the bags functional should power be lost in an accident.
This is the most important reason against using them. The safest thing to do is disconnect the battery, do your electrical work, then reconnect it. If the PCM is disconnected long enough to lose memory, it doesn't take long for it to relearn.
