First Oil Change

I got my truck July 3rd and currently have 3,820 miles on it. I called the dealer when I was at 3,000 to schedule an oil change. The dealer told me that they are sticking to 5,000 miles between oil changes and that I don't have to come in till it hits 5,000.

Is this odd? I always thought that the first oil change should be between 3,000-3,500 miles.....

My oil life percentage is at 47%........

Owners manual says 7500 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.

Go in when it's down to about 10% or so.

They also say you can wipe your a@$ with one sheet of TP and I don't believe them either. My first oil change will be at 2200 and 3500 every change after. I almost feel sorry for your oil filter holding all that break in metal and assembly snot.

If only you had some facts to support your antiquated opinion...

Has anyone else noticed the oil life interval Ford is recommending for the new engines? 10,000 miles!

I need to look again to see if it's for all 4 engines, but I know it said that on at least one of them.

Wink oil change

this is what I always do on cars, trucks and motorcycles; first oil change is 1k miles, add a heavy magnet to the oil pan and change every 4k miles.

Same here. I will be changing my oil at 1,000 miles.

But I will change it every 6 months thereafter since I don't put but about 8,000 miles per year on any one vehicle.

I've also been performing a hard break in and will continue until my first oil change.

P.S. I'm right because I slept at a Holiday Inn Express. :santa:

do it at manufactures specs and you might want to take it to the dealer for the first oil change the filter was put on by 500 lbs gorilla and its hell to get off one of the most difficult i have ever removed after that they are easy money to get off and if you want do it early it don't hurt.

+1 Europeans change their cars oil between 15 and 18,000 miles, and that is on engines slightly more sophisticated than our slow turning V8s. Im thinking if a Mercedes Benz can do a 15k OCI, your truck will be just fine at 7,500.

Thumbs down

I'm using synthetic and doing 7,500 miles change and I'm between first and second changes [10,000 miles] . But for a week the stupid computer tells me I must change oil now !! The week before that same stupid computer told me I had turned off the traction control !
I hates computers !

We hates them too, but the Fords loves them.

That's why they give you an owner's manual and tell you how to resets the oil life monitor. <---hint, hint

BTW, what exactly did you types that post on?

You can use the new era intervals if you like, I am not one to attempt to convince you otherwise, I just smile at the thought of you being perfectly content in your guided brilliance. I myself have done numerous oil studies that could keep the board reading for hours but, If you have never pulled a fresh engine down after a two hour dyno run and inspected the wear pattern and propagation of mating materials and wear metals in the oil filter media. you could only guess as to what I was typing.
