Why would one want their truck louder? The quieter the vehicle is in every respect, the more enjoyable it is to drive.

The only reason I could think that someone would want a loud engine/exhaust/whatever, is if they think they are impressing people somehow by making lots of noise while starting up or driving by.

Do they really think people care what someone else is driving? It's like people who buy new stuff to impress those around them. Again, do they really think people see (or hear) whatever it is, and go home thinking "Wow, that guy was SO cool! or Man, I am SO jealous of that vehicle!"? I don't get it. I'd think you'd want the quietest, comfiest and most luxuriest ride that makes YOU happy. Everyone else around you has their own lives to live, they don't care what someone like myself drives, how it looks, sounds, etc. On the road the only way you'll even get anyone's attention is if you drive crappy and they notice you because you are cutting in/out, speeding 'round, being reckless, etc. Otherwise to the average person you're just 1 of a million other different looking & sounding vehicles on the road going by. You need to satisfy yourself, because no one else gives a care. It's just the way it is.

Sorry about the rant. The numerous comments about it needing to be louder just got me going. Even Ford talks about QUIET being a big measure by the public of a vehicle's quality.

I'll play devil's advocate a little - I have a '92 Mustang with a mild motor build and long-tube headers with no cats. It's rowdy - it's got a nice lope sitting at stop lights and it draws tons of 'man that thing sounds good' and 'what'cha got in that thing' remarks almost every time I drive it.

Being a guy that loves the sound of a high performance engine, I can appreciate the desire for a nice, throaty V8 rumble.

Having said all that, my truck will not be loud. I'll keep it as quiet as possible as it'll be a daily driver and I've got the Mustang and a sport bike to satisfy my 'performance' needs. Now, if someone produces an exhaust system that nets significant power gains, but ends up making my truck a little louder (no fart can mufflers), I'll definitely consider it in the name of performance.

Just like I don't hate on people that want a truck with better MPG, or want a truck lower to the ground or 5' in the air, I'm not going to knock someone for wanting louder exhaust. It's their truck, let 'em do what they want.

I personally don't want to hear the sound of the engine in the cabin either. Now I don't want it sounds like a rice burner on the outside either. I want to be able to have a conversation or listen to the radio. Same with my tractors, if I pay an extra $10k for a cab, it had better be quiet.
Now if I had extra money to spend, I would have a hotrod to play with and drive on weekends and I would want it loud. And yes, even though I am a big fan of the ecoboost my muscle car would have to have an big V-8. The differences being, I wouldn't really care what mpg my "fun" car got and at least I could work on it myself.

hopefully they make the 6.2 an option on the FX4 in the next few years...if not I might be looking at a Lariat Limited....dont like the fake wood accents on the interior of the Platinum and Lariat. And I'm still not big on a V6 in my truck. I think that sounds like crap but I am also one who enjoys listening to the performance of my vehicles and like to hear the exhaust not inside the truck. For those thinking the Ecoboost will sound like a V8 keep dreaming; there is no way to makeup the lost 2 cylinders with sound. At best you can get some blowoff valves which would just be weird coming from a truck without a diesel.

Yawn... that's it?

Done better burnouts in a 4 banger Nissan pickup, and a 6 cylinder Nissan Xterra.

If it would light the tires without having to power-brake, then it would at least be equal to my 4 banger, LOL!

A 4-cyl Nissan pickup must weight half of an Ecoboost Supercrew.

Dumping the clutch is an easy way to get enough torque to spin tires on what are otherwise severely underpowered vehicles. No way a 4-cyl auto can do the same without a neutral drop.

CometFlash - I respect your opinion but sometimes noise isn't for other people lol. I love hearing the rumble of a v8 which is why I installed longtube headers to my truck. It wasn't meant to impress anyone else. I did it for the performance as well as the rumble. I have a 99 scab with a 5.4, which was the first year of PI heads with the aluminum upper intake - I absolutely love the sound of the aluminum intake in comparison to the plastic intakes they went with since 2000. Its all about owner preference. However, I'd love to buy a 2011 truck just so I'd not have to hear the rattles of the rear doors anymore

That TCS shutoff better be an available TSB or update on the 09-10 trucks!!!! Not that I do burnouts. But like the ability to control my trucks power management better.
