might get new truck tomorrow

Well I have been back and forth with local dealership for about a week on potential new truck. Looking at trading my '06 xlt 2wd on a new 2010 F150. Main objection in increase in payment but will get new truck with warranty.

Looking at the following:

1) 2010 xlt sc 2wd price is pretty good looking at about $480 a month.

2) 2010 xlt sc 4wd looking at about $515 a month

I am leaning towards the 4wd because I really want 4wd just in case. Little bit more than would like to spend but will just have to cut some other bills down to get it. I am going in the morning to finalize deal. Any input?

Personally i think that if you cant afford that $35 difference in monthly price between 2wd and 4x4 you shouldnt be looking into a new truck. hang on to your 06, save up your money for a nice downpayment on one later.

How much do you owe on the 06, and how much are they giving you on a tradein? (Actual trade value off negotiated price, not off "list")

What's the APR and length of the note?

The 05 is the one with the injector issues - but you do have the spark plug issues on the 06.

I can afford the truck just trying to justify it mentally to myself...lol. I really think the 4wd will make me happy. Kinda worried about repair bills with the '06 maybe. Thinking about cam phasers and fuel injectors keep me up at night.

I will say though, if your on the fence with 2wd and 4x4 and you want the 4x4...go with the 4x4. i made that mistake on my first truck...01 screw with the 5.4. Had that thing for like 5 years and regretted going with 2wd all the time. I didnt make the same mistake twice though as you can see.

Looking at going with 4wd, will definately be happy with it later. Was looking at both 4.6 and 5.4 even test drove both. The smaller one isn't really a dog like the older ones were. Have like 4 trucks i'm narrowing down and looking for advice before headin to dealerhship in a few hours.

Any input on motors and gear ratios? 3.55 lsd or 3.73 lsd? Trying to make an informed desicion this time around. I don't tow very often but occasionally take my boat out to the lake.

The 4.6 3V with the 6 speed and 3.55's is a sweet package as long as you don't plan on lifting it and putting oversize tires on it. That should tow up to about 6k with no problem.

Does the OP want reassurance from fellow members to buy the 4x4 over the 4x2 truck?

The best advice is to buy the truck you really want; otherwise, you'll always be thinking, regretting not doing so. Seems to me, the 4x4 is the pick for you. Post pics when you buy it.

Well got back with my new truck.

2010 Blue flame 2wd 4.6 3V XLT. Really like this body style and the sync is awesome. Got the 3.55 LSD which was a feature that I really wanted if getting 2wd. Had to work back and forth but got payment were I wanted it too. I'lll post pics as soon as i figure out how to.

Congrats on the new truck, im sure you'll love it. I agree about 2wd, can't justify the added cost, lower mpgs and added maintenance for something ill rarely use. A/t tires and cables for snow work fine for me.

In order pay off, lets say, a $36,000 +/- truck, at 5% +/- interest, in 3 years your looking at a payment of approx. $1100.00 per month.
So to pay off a new truck in 3 years would be really nice but it isn't reality for the average person.
Not if they have other bills to pay every month like a mortgage, 2nd car payment, insurances, utilities, personal expenses, misc. household expenses etc.
You must have one heck of a monthly income or limited other monthly expenses if your comfortable making a $1000 plus truck payment.
