Anyone Have a Back Rack or Pro Rack with 5.5' Bed
Anyone Have a Back Rack or Pro Rack with 5.5' Bed
I loved my Back Rack on my F-250. Unfortunately, with the 5.5' bed on my F-150, there are no stake pockets to mount the rack. I'm not real crazy about drilling holes in my brand new truck, so I'm looking for some pics and insight from anyone who has one.
Yes, the stake pockets are there on the 5.5. You just have to cut thru the black plastic rail cap.
You will also need to drill a 3/4" or so hole in the side of the stake pockets about 4.5" down, as these were already there in the 6.5 but are not in the 5.5. You will need this for the Backrack mounting.
I needed to do this when I transferred my Backrack from a 2009 6.5 bed to a 2010 5.5 bed. I also shimmed it up so the Backrack is now higher than the roof, which was an annoyance before, that it was not.
Here are some pics I hope are helpful to you:
Good luck.

Awesome! Thanks for the replies and thanks for the pics johnwill. I thought it was odd that it appeared to be a false stake pocket. I'm glad that it's a real one. I wonder how hard it will be to drill through the Line-X when it's time.
Johnwill I hope you can help me out. I have a back rack that I want to install on my 2009 SCREW with 5.5 bed. I can see what steps were taken from your photographs. I am curious as to what the hardware looks like that drops down in the stake pocket? I bought my rack used and it came with the tool box adapters which I do not want to use. I am not paying $100 for the small brackets either and will instead have a friend do some welding for me.
So if you had any other photos please post them.

It's an L-shaped bolt with threads on the exposed ends. I don't have pictures, but that's what they look like.

Perfect thanks!
Any chance you could post the dimensions of the flat piece of metal that sits on the bed rail and the angle iron that sits on top of the flat piece and attaches to the rack?
Going to have a friend build me the hardware - back rack wants $84 plus tax plus shipping which is crazy.
Thanks again
