Front door swings open to easily

The detents (not sure if that's what you would call them) that hold the front doors paritially open don't really do much and I'm finding a small breeze can just catch the door and swing it fully open in a blink of an eye. Not a problem if there is nothing within 3 or 4 feet but thats rare living in the city.

Is there some way to modify it so the door stays put when its partially open?

I don't know the answer but concur with your opinion. They don't seem to hold real well. Also seems to me that the first detent could set the door a little closer to the truck too. I'd prefer that it be set so that the door won't hit a car in an adjacenet parking space. I find if I let go, the first detent would let the door hit the car next to me.

Angry

The detents on the 2009's suck. The first one is "barely open", you'd have to be paper thin to get in or out by it. And the second one is like fully open as far as possible so your door will slam into anything within several feet, which is crazy for most applications except cleaning.

No idea if they fixed this issue on the '10's or not. There needs to be some middle ground on the detents!

Sorry... wasn't remembering this correctly. The other guys are right. There's only one detent and the opening it provides is almost useless. It's so useless, I didn't remember it was there. After that, the door is wide open.

I agree. First one is not enough and the second one is too far out. I went from an F250 to my F150 Screw and I thought all F150's were this way. Sounds like they made a change in the 2009's. If anybody figures out how to mod this let us know.

Just noticed date on posts. Sorry about thread revival.

I haven't figured out a soloution yet except to slide on the door edge guards.

Must say these guards are slim but they have prevented a few incidences from doing damage.

A minor gust of wind can easily blow the door open. Or a slight nudge with your leg, hip, elbow etc. will easily force the door past the first detent and you better hope there's nothing within 3ft for that door to hit.

I found out the hard way with my 2012. It slammed into a car next to me and chipped the paint on the edge of the door. I wish there was a way to alter the detents.

I too (almost) found out the hard way when I first bought my truck. I barely caught my door as it headed toward the red BMW next to me! I'm used to it now. Check out the other thread on the first page regarding modifying the detent. However no one has completed this mod yet.

Glad I'm not the only one that doesn't care for the detent locations. I've had a couple close calls.
