Leather seat care
Leather seat care
Mine are only 2 months old and already starting to see a big crease in the drivers side seat, do I need to already start putting products on the leather to avoid this...is this normal this soon? First time to have leather so bare with me. What should I do? What products work best?
I use armor all leather care on mine. Also a major influence on how Lon you leather last is how you get in and out of your truck. Try to just sit straight to and from the seat rather than sliding in and out. Sliding out makes the outer edge weak over time.
LEATHER SEATS
(IF EQUIPPED, EXCEPT FOR THE KING RANCH SUPERCREW)
Your leather seating surfaces have a clear, protective coating over the leather.
For King Ranch SuperCrew leather seats, refer to separate section in this chapter.
• For routine cleaning, wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth. For more thorough cleaning, wipe the surface with a mild soap and water solution. In Canada, use Motorcraft Vinyl Cleaner (CXC-93). Dry the area with a soft cloth.
• If the leather cannot be completely cleaned using a mild soap and water solution, the leather may be cleaned using a commercially available cleaning product designed for automotive interiors.
• Do not use household cleaning products, alcohol solutions, solvents or cleaners intended for rubber, vinyl and plastics, or oil/petroleum-based leather conditioners. These products may cause premature wearing of the clear, protective coating.
Note: In some instances, color or dye transfer can occur when wet clothing comes in contact with leather upholstery. If this occurs, the leather should be cleaned immediately to avoid permanent staining.

I use Mcguire's leather care on mine. I completely detail all my new vehicles starting at day one, including the interior. I've treated the F-150 seats three times in 6 months. They seem fine.
Lariat leather---Fx4 leather--should never be treated with anything except wiped down with a damp cloth. If you keep treating it with leather cleaners you will only compound the problem, which will keep breaking down the polymer coating which is on the seats( Which is designed not to let things penetrate)

Leather conditioner would only be good for King Ranch type leather-- The hole point of the Lariat --Fx4 type leathers is so that things do not soak into the leather.Leather conditioner is just going to sit there and not soak in.
It does say if it can't be cleaned with just a cloth in the 3rd post to use a commercially available cleaner
That's actually "oil/petroleum based leather conditioners", which is not all leather conditioners. Many automotive leather conditioners are not oil/petroleum based.
after having leather seats in the stang....I would always use conditioner regardless of what Ford says.
If you dont use conditioner (with mink oil is best) your seats will crack and peel when you hit 40-50K miles if not sooner...I don't care what protectant they put on them.
Also tinting your windows will help with the aging of the leather and make it last longer.
I always use Meguiar's
