transmission problem .. code P0658

i have a 2010 fx4 (5.4, 6spd auto, supercrew, 6.5 bed, max tow..) with only 2300kms (1500 miles) on it.
The service light (wrench icon) started appearing randomly on the dash with no error message. Now the check engine light is on .. although, it also goes off sometimes. When both are lit up at the same time, the tranny only uses 3rd gear .. i guess it's some kind of limp home mode. It's also really harsh when shifting from P to D or D to P (always with my foot on the brake and level ground) when both lights are on.
I can cycle the key a few times until the wrench icon goes out, then it drives and shifts fine.
took it to the dealer and they claim they have to take the tranny apart!
anyone see this before?
in the work log it says this:
"VER K0E0 P0658 VER OASIS ACCORDING TO SSM 21074 A TRANS MUST BE REPARED..REMOVED"

i scanned it with an obd reader, and it finds code P0658 "Actuator supply voltage circuit low"

googling, i found this:

21074 6R80 EQUIPPED VEHICLES WITH CONTINOUS OR STORED P0658 TRANSMISSION DTC
SOME 2009/2010 VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 6R80 TRANSMISSION MAY EXHIBIT THE DTC P0658 (ACTUATOR POWER SHORT TO
GROUND) CAUSED BY FINE CONTAMINATION AT THE SOLENOID TO LEADFRAME CONNECTION, IN MOST CASES CONTAMINATION
MAY NOT BE VISIBLE AND IS TYPICALLY LOST DURING THE MECHATRONIC REMOVAL PROCESS. FOLLOW THE WSM 307-01B
PROCEDURES TO REMOVE THE MECHATRONIC AND THE TCM LEADFRAME. REMOVING THEN REINSTALLING THE TCM HAS BEEN
EFFECTIVE IN ALLEVIATING "SHORT TO GROUND" CONDITION. FILL AND SET TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL AND CLEAR DTC'S
AND ROADTEST. :MECHTRONIC SHOULD ONLY BE REPLACED IF THE DTC/CONDITION RETURNS.
EFFECTIVE DATE: 11/05/2009

does the trans have to be removed to take out the mechatronic/tcm, or can they do it by dropping the oil pan? someone have a copy of WSM 307-01B?

I have the same issue with my 2009 FX4. Did you get this resolved by re-seating the machatronic assembly? Looks like a pain. I have three fords and I'm getting tired of transmission problems!
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. I did call the dealer about an upgrade and was told they didn't have any for the 2009. I have had two on my 2010 fusion and one on my 2013 focus so I thought this might be the case on the F150.

The day before Christmas the wrench started flashing again and the transmission would not shift. I found out this is a safe mode/limp home condition. The dealer replaced the mechatronic assembly to fix the issue. I also had AAMCO look at it and they came up with the same recommendation but also told me this transmission is “junk” and is a navigator transmission and should not have been used for the F150 FX4 with a towing package. I don't know for sure about all that but I do know is the assembly is a full unit of what is normally individual replacement parts for a “good” transmission and including install is over 2K and my truck only has 36K miles. Other than towing a 24' trailer a handful of times and a couple of brief, light offload rides it has been babied. In fact compared to every other truck I have had including other F150s;, a Silverado and a Yukon this was totally babied. I'm not happy at all with the possibility of a having a 2-3K transmission service every 35K miles. The Dodge is not looking as ugly all of the sudden!
