what wheels will make my tires stick out the farthest? Im looking at the XD addicts which have a 4.53 backspace and -12 offset. Do the negative offsets make the tire stick out farther? I know the lower backspace will.

 

Yes, negative offsets will make them stick out further than a Zero or positive offset.

I am guessing, by the numbers you listed, this is a 10" wide wheel? So you can measure 5.47 (10inches minus the backspace of 4.53inches)inches off the hub and thats how far the face of the wheel will sit out. Backspacing and offset are products of eachother... can't change one without the other changing. Your 4.53inches of backspacing is really the centerline of the wheel (5 inches) minus 12mm of negative offset. So if we keep the width of the wheel constant at 10inches but this wheel had say a -44 offset, then it would also have a lower backspacing number (5 inches minus 44mm of offset) as well and thus stick out even more. Now if you change the wheel width in this equation, everything changes, lol.

So a backspacing LOWER than HALF the wheel width will always be negative. A backspacing HIGHER than half the wheel width will always be positive. Backspacing exactly half the wheel width is ZERO. Offset is just the measure of the backspacing point back to the centerline of the wheel.... basically from the wheel mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel. Hopefully I'm not being too basic. Pics are always easier on this subject, lol.

 

Can't give you an answer without knowing the wheel width. For instance if the wheel is 10 inches wide, it will stick out about 3.5 inches farther than your stock wheels but if it's 9 inches wide it will stick out 2.5 inches farther than your OEM wheels.

Those wheels will stick out 2.5 inches farther than your stock wheels.

 

so if the wheels im lookin at now for my 2001 f150 supercrew have a -21mm offset and a backspacing of 4.63, how far would that stick out. its a 10 inch wide rim. Because i am trying to get wheels that stick out as far as possible. thanks

 

check my gallery. my wheels XD HOSS and are 4.5" of backspacing or -12 offset. They are on my blue truck and the silverish truck pics. to give you and idea of what they will look like on a truck. mine are 20x9, but are the same width so it will be the same .

 

thanks big smokey! truck looks good! theres some wheels im lookin at that are 10 iches wide with a -21 offset and i figured that would stick out even further right? My tires are only like 11.9 inches wide so i am wanting to get them to stick out as far as possible and having a 10 inch wide would make them stand out even farther. Right?

 

yah,but your tires are going to look kinda sily If it were me id stick with a 9inch wide wheel, unless you are going to get a wider tire. But yes to answer your question they will stick out farther then that. probably about 3.5" more then stock.
Just remember the farther out you push them the smaller diameter tire you will want to run.
