Bed light - when tailgate opens?

Anyone added a light in the bed that comes on when the tailgate opens? Sure is dark under the toneau cover. I need a way to put in a light that comes on automatically when the tailgate is opened. Any ideas?

I put an Undercover bed cover on my truck and it has a built in led light. Comes in pretty damn handy.

You can put one of those battery powered stick up lights, but you have to turn it on.

If that is too tacky for you I'm sure you could adapt an under hood typr light with the gravity switch.

Or contact undercover like Savage02 has and see if theirs will work.

If the forum had a search button, you could search for it and find several threads discussing lights in the bed. Even some with a jamb switch the turn the light on when the tailgate opens.

I have used these on a past vehicle and was very pleased. Very easy install.

You will need either a magnetic switch or a tilt switch. Both will do the trick, I think the magnetic is more reliable.

Or, you could just wire it to the cargo lamp. (Wire to the gray wire with purple stripe found in your driver's side kick panel).

You could get this WFLS-x 60 Flexible Light Strip at superbrightleds.com The natural white is the brightest. They are 39" long and weatherproof. For about $27 each. They are installed with adhesive backing and hook straight to 12vdc with no need for resistors. They can easily mount under the bed rail and give lots of light. I am going to be doing this to mine soon.

Did you use the LED or incandescent version?? They look pretty good and the price is decent.

I used the LED and the were plenty bright! I got two of them that i mounted at the back of the truck to shine into the bed, not into my eyes. I liked them just fine.

Is the power source batteries? Or do you splice into the truck's power?

I just got my LED strips (Ebay) and am planning on running them from the battery. I was going to use a regular toggle switch. But I see some of you guys recommend a magnetic switch. Do they wire up the same way?

The UnderCover has a simple built in 3 LED battery powered light. It works well enough for my needs. Just push the red on/off switch.

I spliced into the trailer lights connector. Very good and easy to follow instructions and connectors in the kit. Good Luck!
