Fixing an attempted break in??

So yesterday I was at a Chuy's mexican resturant FRONT ROW parking in BROAD DAYLIGHT and come back out to find my truck messed up. They punched in the lock, broke/cracked the frame around the handle, the keypad was sunken in, under the key pad the door is all dented up, Couldnt even open my door from the outside.

Now my question is....what do I do?
Repair myself?? Have the dealer fix it? Insurance? Body shop?

I want to go whatever route will look the best and fix the entire problem.

Any help or tips here would be appreciated!

If your comprehemsive insurance deductible is less than $500, report it to the insurance company. If it is $500 or more, then go get an estimate on the repairs to see how much it is going to cost. The door may have to be replaced, which could be expensive.

I've gotten a few quotes this morning and wont be as bad as I thought but still too much to be paying for something some punk trying to steal did.

Lol, maybe that's a sign!

On a serious note, that sucks hard dude. People are just crazy these days. This past weekend, I was sitting at a red light, in broad daylight, and a homeless guy tried to get into the bed of my truck. I got out of the truck, and looked at him like he was stupid. He immediately started apologizing, and walking away as fast as possible. I guess he figured I would not have noticed him getting in. Honestly, it was the most perplexing thing I have ever experienced.

Yes, Yes it does. And I agree with you 110%, people are CRAZY. Idk what that homeless guy was thinking and I sure dont know what they people messing with my truck were thinking. I had NOTHING important inside my truck at all except a radar which was out of sight. I guess they figured cause of the rims I had money stashed inside or just wanted to steal the entire truck. Went out an bought a anti theft device (connect from steering wheel to pedal) pretty neat. Hopefully that and my new alarm and a sticker or two will do enough to prevent it from happening again......I HOPE

fordtruckgirl - Thanks I plan to get it fixed really soon so I wont be reminded everyday how ****ed up and low some people can be.

Seems to be going around Texas, though mine was at a Plucker's instead of Chuy's:

https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...placement.html

In short, I spent about $200 to repair damage that sounds similar to yours. $100 to a paintless dent repair guy to work out the dents, and ~ $100 for a new lock cylinder and door handle (I order from Tasca as the local dealer's quote was more than 2x as much).

The job was pretty easy. Rekeying the lock took about 10 minutes once I figured out how it worked. Replacing the door handle took 15 minutes. Before/After photos in the thread posted above.

Only $100 for the new lock AND handle? I wonder why they quoted me so high? U have a 2010? And what color handle do you have?

Tasca is one of the dealers who offers good discounts for online parts. That's why.

I have the XLT Chrome package handles - so black plastic 'bucket' and a chrome handle.

Dealer quote was $180 for the handle, $30 for the lock, and $60 to rekey it.

did the resturant or any stores around it have video camras pointing at where your truck was almost broken into if so ask to have the camra footage checked out and maybe that can help you
