Dropped mine off at the dealer tonight for the Ford (Codealarm) remote with alarm. Will let you know tomorrow afternoon how it is. I didn't need all the bells and whistles of non-ford remotes and also just needed a basic alarm.

I like DEI products. The new two way with color remote has real time feedback that tells you if your truck is running or stalled. That is important when I leave the dogs in it. I have the 5901 in the Explorer and the car could stall and the remote still shows it running. I prefer the Clifford stuff but it is all the same inside.

Just find the best installer you can. I had to take the Explorer back 6 times in 4 months. Finally another tech put a whole new system in.

Yea I looked at that one and have a brochure with all the Viper alarms, didnt know if Viper was the best but know its been around awhile. I know Clifford is another good brand. How much did you pay for yours and where did you have it installed?

whiskerbiscuit - How much did the charge you?

L8 APEX - Never heard of DEI ill have to check into that sounds like an important feature to have. How did you like that 5901 besides that feature? What kind of problems did you run into with the install?

My installer was an idiot and not familiar with CAN BUS cars. He said the new Ford door triggers are opposite the old switch tech. The newest alarms have an option, the older ones you have to add a module. He corrupted the alarm brain by flashing it with the wrong update. Then he tapped into the autolamp wrong so the lights looked like a space ship sometimes.

Just go the the best most expensive installer you can find.

CarToys quoted me 800 for the new color one. I found another stereo shop for 680.

Directed Electronics makes everything now.

Sounds like yours has an issue. My remote will tell me by buzzing and an alarm sound that remote start has turned off. Mine shows a symbol on the screen when its running and not running also. Sometimes it will buzz me when I'm in a store longer than I thought to remind me to restart it.

I know what I am talking about. Yes the old system will tell you when the time runs out etc. But it does not know when the vehicle stalls. If you read the details on the new system it says real time status is the improvement.

remote start fault reporting.

Not just when time runs out. It will also tell you if it stopped due to someone touching the break pedal or if the truck runs out of fuel. I looked at the new remote just 5 days ago and other than the new screen it functions just like my 5901 remote. That's why I think you have an issue with your remote if it don't tell you when the engines stops running.
