Sony Subwoofer

What is the size of the subwoofer that comes with the Sony sound package? I know the system is 700 watts with 11-speakers but I'm not a big time audio guy. The sub definitely kicks with the volume 1/3 of the way maxed out..........

If it's similar to the 04-08 Audiophile sub, it's an 8" 90w sub with a little built-in amp. It's better than no sub, but it doesn't compare to a good aftermarket sub. The JL StealthBox I installed a while back sound much better and it's only a 10" 300w sub.

Yes it is. It says so on the sub. My JL 500w slash can't hold a candle to that beast of an amp on the sub.

700 watt (max i'm sure, not RMS) over 11 speakers isn't all that much.

If they're 50w speakers with a 200w sub that'd be 700w, and I'd be really surprised if the sub's 200w.

I bet you're correct. It sounds very nice, certainly better than the Audiophile in my 2004. But it doesn't get very loud/bassy at all, so that makes a lot of sense. For example, if you wanted to blare your tunes to the entire neighborhood while driving down the street, you better go aftermarket. But if you want to maintain your hearing and not shake apart the quiet interior into rattle city, than the 700W Sony System is very nice.

That is the perfect description.

For the cost of the option, I think you get a good value.

^ Agreed. I had the old Audiophile in my '05, but it can't compare to my current aftermarket setup.

Audiophile sub vs. JL Stealthbox sub:
