Introductions

Just wanted to introduce myself. I'll be a lurker, soaking up what information I can.

I have just purchased my first F150 (should be picking it up today). I'm moving up from my 2000 Ranger Edge Supercab 2WD which I loved, but it just wouldn't tow my trailer....and it lived a long life but sadly was at the end of it. 180,000 miles, 3 original tires, frozen rear drum, check engine light on, leafspring shackle broken, never ending brake line replacement, remaining drums, rotors, shoes, and pads gone, air conditioning not working for years....in other words on life support.

I got a used 2009 F150 regular cab 2WD XL in Flame Blue Metallic with 13,000 miles on it. I'm interested in what mods I can do on it, I'd love to add:
trailer brake controller
power windows
power locks
this USB 2 thing is intriguing but does it require Sync?
Sliding rear window with flag graphic
Toolbox
visor with lights
Contractor racks or similar for canoe, kayak, and fishing rods

I'd be interested in pictures of other interesting and hopefully cheap mods to make that truck pop a bit.

Welcome to the site. I'm going to move this to the 2009-2010 forum as it should get more interest there.

Welcome, and nice truck.....

I own a couple of Rangers myself, in addition to my F-150. While my F-150 will always be my "baby", he's a true "Garage Queen" and to be honest with you, I think I like driving the Rangers better as an everyday vehicle.

I'm not a huge fan of window graphics, but I think the flag motif would actually look really good against the blue color of your truck.

In my opinion, the charm of the XL series is their rugged simplicity -- right down to the "plain jane" rims. If it were me, I'd add the things you mentioned, but not worry about giving it "pop" since that would only tend to detract from the simple beauty of a real work truck! That XL series kind of hearkens back to what traditional American pick-ups were all about -- before people decided to make them into their daily drivers.....

Congrats on the truck and welcome to the site. I know you'll be pleased with the F-150 over the Ranger.

Thanks guys. I guess pop isn't the right word, looking for it to look sharp I guess. Not blingy, just want "hey, that's a nice looking truck".

Just brought her home. Waaaay bigger and roomier than the Ranger. Nice having brakes that work. And real nice having AC that works. I think no on the visor, looks great without it.

Yeah -- they're like getting into the Titanic when compared to a Ranger.....

I agree with passing on the visor -- but that truck would look sweet with the contractor rack you mentioned.....

So a few questions before I get deep into planning.

Are the power leads for power mirrors in the door even if I don't have power mirrors?

Are the power leads for power locks and power windows in the door if I don't have either option?

Is the USB2 hack just for Sync? I don't think there is Sync, it has the am/fm/mp3 single disc and the Sirrius option but no subscription.

Are you sure that's flame blue? It looks like the darker and classier Dark Blue Pearl. Very nice truck!

I think it is the Dark Blue Pearl looking at the colors online for 2009 F150s. Blue Flame Metallic is what they advertised. I'd check the window sticker I saw in the book, but I overdid it today again (laid up from colon cancer surgery). I'll check tomorrow.

A cable with the same size plug on both ends. I got mine at Best Buy for five or ten bucks.
