Valve Cover and PCV valve
Valve Cover and PCV valve
Has the ball from the Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve (PCV valve) been integrated into the valve cover on the 2009 4.6L 3V? I know the PCV valves are now wired and heated away from the valve cover with a hose running to them, but is the actual ball and spring part of it mounted inside the valve cover?
Does anyone have any pictures to help explain this to me?
Thanks.

yes way!!! It needed replacing. I've had a noise coming from the engine since I bought the truck new 6 months ago. The dealerships have thrown numerous parts at it......(a/c compressor, pulleys, both cam phazers, and a few other parts).
They now believe that it is the pcv valve. To replace the PCV valve they have to replace the valve cover. Can you believe that!!! They built the pcv valve as part of the valve cover. It is all integrated to one piece. They took off my valve cover (drivers side) and shook it. You can hear the ball from the PCV valve rattling inside the tube that is part of the valve cover.
Imagine that, a simple $10 PCV valve, built into a $350 valve cover. Now when that little thing goes bad, it's no longer a cheap fix. Seems like a money making idea to me.
What do you think????
(My idea): When the warranty is up, if the same part goes bad, I drill out the tube on the valve cover containing the PCV valve. That way there is just a hole on the valve cover, then I buy a $10 PCV valve from the parts store and problem solved.
