Reverse lights... whats the best way?
I have been reading up on Auxiliary reverse light installs and cant figure out if I want to wire direct to reverse light wiring so the light come on every time it goes into reverse, or the option to manually switch in only while in reverse or if I just wire a direct line to switch on whenever i choose.
I can see benefits and negative to each, but how would you do it?
And to the guys that already have done it, would you do it another way than you set yours up now that you have used it.

I wired mine with relays so they only came on when my heads lights are on. That way they only come on at night. Here my how to https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...ight-pics.html
use a relay, on your 85 tap into the reverse wire, and also run a switched 12v into 85. put a diode inline with the reverse wire tap if you want to prevent your tail light reverse lights from coming on
I wired them up independently from the stock reverse lights on my '06. 95% of the time I'm in reverse I don't need them. But when I do, quick flip of the switch and there they are. Very nice addition for the times I do need them! If I were to do it again... I would keep them the same. Actually did do it again, had a set on my '97 set up the same way.
The feed to the 7-pin ( if you have that ) would work out fine. Maybe run a couple wires into cab with switch , incase you want them off.
I would not want any situation where backfeed could occur, even with a diode there is still going to be a bit of voltage backfed. Our trucks will put up with a lot as long as you dont **** off the SJB.
I am probably going to tap into the reverse headed to the 7-pin. with a waterproof sw off of the mountin plate for the 7 and 4 pin connecotrs. to disable if i need too. i swapped out everything for LED. and that was an improvement, more noticable at night viewing backup camera. but more light is always good. i also have a 7pin light buster backup/aux light i use.
everyone have a great weekend.

Opps... edit
The Red lead is the reverse light connection correct?

i think that above^ is right
when adding light and what not i like to run everthing on its own, that way if you ever have a issue the dealer can't say it was your fault, or let you down on the side on the road ( thats just my veiw)
but for reverse lights, if you tow its nice to have them on a switch. so that when you hooking or unhooking you can just leave the on, and i bet youll find other needs were youll just want them on to work behined your truck

When I have wired in the 7 pin trailer light plug, Blue or 2 is to the reverse light circuit.
The European rear FOG lights are a light that comes on behind the red of the tail light housing (In our Jetta anyways) and uses the same bulb as the reverse lights.
