Looking at 09s, and I have questions

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the site and F150s. I'm looking to buy an 09 or maybe 10 F150 and I have some questions. If it stops raining I may even go tonight.

One of the trucks I want to go see is a 09 FX4 with 8000 miles on it. Its a flairside or stepside, whatever they call it but it has steps on the outside of the bed. As far as I can tell they don't offer this on 10s so I'm wondering what you goys think of them, any downside? Is the bed any smaller, gate wize? Would I still be able to haul a 4x 8 sheet of drywall? I'm also interested in a folding cover, one of these http://bakfliptonneaucover.com/bakflip_home, would it fit this type of bed?

Any general comments on the 09s and 150s are welcome, I assume you all like them but I'd like to know if there are any known issues, big or small.

By the way, I'm looking at supercabs

Thanks
Ken

The FlareSide beds were holdovers from the '04-'08 inventory, as you can tell, they are exactly the same, even has the same old taillights; and the wheel molding is different too - in my opinion doesn't really flow with the front wheel moldings on the 2009 cab. But it all depends on if you like the look or not, personal choice.

I've had my '09 Platinum for just over a year now, and have had zero problems and only one minor gripe (the truck still isn't quiet, has minor jiggies/rattles/squeekies/whatever you want to call 'em). The noise by the driver door/window area is the most annoying, seems to go away if you crack the window a tiny bit, but then you get the air noise - no winning there. Other than that, a great truck!

Slightly off topic, I didn't even know that they made 09's with the flareside.
Anyone have any pictures?

You would still be able to haul 4x8 sheets, the width between the wheel wells is 50" on both types of beds.

Heres a few pics of my 09 STX with flareside bed. The bed is 6.5ft and as statikuz says there is room between the wheel wells. The look is not for everyone and I bought mine used so I didn't pick the bed. I do like it now as it is fairly rare and they don't make them anymore. I put an Extang Fulltilt soft cover on mine, I don't know what else is available but I have learned that most companies don't list the 09 flareside for bed covers so if you get it don't be afraid to order something for a 04-08 as the bed is identical.

Wow, that's damn cool!
Talk about a new Lighting platform on a Regular Cab!
I may have to P-Chop one together...

BTW, thanks for the photos guys!

Nice looking truck! The one I am looking at is red. The cover I want is a folding type that locks, I reslly like that idea because you can completly uncover the bed and drive like that or fold it down flat and lock it. Just found out it dosen't fit flareside trucks and I'm really digging the looks of the flareside!

Well, I couldn't make a deal on the truck, it ended up being beyond what I was willing to pay.

Now I am going to look at another 09 FX4 in dark blue with the max tow package, wish me luck!
