8 weeks and 1,400 miles the check engine light comes on. Took it in today and they tell me the PCM is bad. Said it'll take 2-3 days to fix, mainly because they have to order it.

 

Sucks that it happened but at least the repairs/replacement cost is going to be on Ford.

 

if you are still driving the truck the pcm is fine, the pcm is one of the rarest parts to fail, my guess it has been missed diagnosed.

 

They put me in a loaner because they said it wasn't safe to drive. I was told three codes are showing, plus the tranny wasn't shifting right. Was in a hurry to get to work otherwise I would of had them explain what the codes were.

I work in the ag industry and I have only had two combines that have had the computers fail. The only reason they failed was because both were struck by lightning on the same night and fried almost all the computers.

Vehicles are going to be the same way. I doubt the controller is the problem. If it is just one or two things wrong its doubtful its the computer. If everything that is controlled by the computer has faiiled then I would suspect the computer but computer failures just aren't common.

 

Got a call from the service writer. Truck not fixed yet. Waiting on parts. I asked what codes were showing and was told 2 codes showed the PCM was bad and had to be replaced and one code said the O2 sensor was bad and needed to be replaced. Hmmmm.

 

'Hmmm' is right. I'd be concerned as well.

PCM's do not go bad. That only happens routiely in chebies, lol.

And an O2 on a brand-new truck? Unlikely ... (but, not impossible, it's just the coincidence that's troubling).

Have 'em read you the codes over the phone and post them up. Curious to see them now ...

Hmmmm .. no, I just chose to ignore it - and don't fool yerself; it was far from subtle by my standards.

P0606 PCM Processor Fault is as close as it gets.

Close enough for me. We won't know until/unless the OP supplies the actual dianostic results.

Got the truck back and this is what's on the work order.

"1460 Verify light on, IDS self test P2098, pinpoint test DZ, DZ 22, inspect OK, DZ 23, inspect OK, DZ 24 inspect OK, DZ 29 perform self test bank 2 down stream still 0 volts, replaced PCM and programmed per pinpoint test, did not fix, PID monitor test drive, bank 2 down stream still not switching stuck on 0 volts, run ignition test pass, power balance erratic bank 2, test wiring to bank 2 down stream O2 all test pass no high resistance at this time, put in request for hot line contact ID 103755604, was told to replace O2 sensor up stream for this code, replaced O2 sensor up stream, retest down stream O2 now switching."

Only a short drive home from dealership so I haven't had a chance to really check out the shifting issue, but I was told it was related to the bad O2 sensor as well.

 

so like i said missed diagnosed, they replaced the pcm and it didn't fix it, then they put in o2 sensor.

and MGDFan i can't tell if trying to be funny or just stupid, would that be considered subtle.

 

I'll have to resort to my trusty english translator again, but, what I think you are trying to say is, you suck at sarcasm. It's okay - many do.

Bottom line, and the BS 'sarcasm' card you played - very poorly no less - notwithsanding, you stated clearly that there was no "PCM is bad" code. I called you on it.
