Maybe because I've never built anything other than a FX4 on Fords "Build & Price" site, but I just noticed the 3.73 rear end seems to be a FX4 only feature. Is this 'cause only the e locker comes in 3.73s? Never noticed this before. 09s this way too?

 

Not completely sure on the 10's, but my 09 Platinum has the 3:73 in it as part of the Max Tow Package option.

Any "Max tow package" available comes with the 3.73s. Lariat, XLT, etc.. To get the e-locker you need the FX4 but 3.73s are certainly NOT limited to the FX4. I just validated on building my own and indeed it's true.

 

Only the FX4 comes with the 3.73 with the smaller mirrors.... my brother was sooo pissed about this cause he hates the big towing mirrors and wanted the 3.73 with "normal mirrors" on his platinum, but couldn't happen.

 

I was aware e locker was limited to FX4.

 

One more choice for 3.73's, that's the heavy duty payload package.

 

FX4 is the only model that comes standard with 3.73s. No option to change.

Other models you have a choice of gearing.

 

I guess it gives it more off road perf or large tire options...

 

My 2010 XLT has 3.73's with the smaller mirrors

 

But you don't have the 20:1 steering gear or whatever comes with the max tow.
He wants everything max tow except the mirrors.

 

He can't just buy the regular mirrors after buying the truck?

 

Oh ok i guess i didnt get that part my bad. Like SFCFX4 brought up, he could always buy the small mirrors after the fact. There is a thread on here somewhere about swapping the mirrors out. They bolt right up and all electric connections should be the same depending on options.

Max tow should only be 3,73. Yes, he could do a free mirror swap, good thinking.
