Arrrrgh...AGAIN with the 4x4 problem!!

All,

Started my '09 Platinum (9K miles) this AM and drove 1/2 block only to hear the transfer case screech/grind again! It was trying to shift in 4x4 all by itself!! I stopped, checked the 4x4 dash switch - it was in 2 wheel drive. It then began flashing "4x4 Shift in Progress" then went to Flashing between "4x4 High and the picture of the wrench with 4x4 fault"...this is the 2nd time in two months this has happened and I'm worried about the grinding in the transfer case...that can't be good for the 4x4 system. The first time I had the truck in for a simple oil change/tire rotation and when I picked it up in the dealer's service drive it was flashing "4x4 Shift in Progress" (although the dash selector was in 2x4). I brought it to the service writer's attn and they were able to get it to stop flashing the code then sent me on my way. On the way home at about 45mph it tried to shift into 4x4 on it's own, and made a horrible screeching/grinding noise from the transfer case...dealer kept it a week, said they couldn't find any problem, said it was corroded connectors (on a new 2009 that only had 8K miles at the time??) and sent me on my way. Well here we are again and I want this thing fixed right this time...I sure hope I don't have a lemon!! Anyway, I hardley ever use the 4x4 - anyone else have this kind of issue or can anyone help me understand what might be causing these random, unwanted shift attempts into 4x4? I'm worried the tranfer case is going to be toast (if it's not already damaged) from this

Never heard of that problem...but it def needs to be dropped off at the dealer for good until they
1. fix the problem
2. make sure the 'problem' didnt cause any wear on the system.

try another dealer

the only lemon you have is your dealer, don't be mad at the truck when the dealer clearly has no interest in fixing your concern. because i would bet dollars to donuts that it didn't have a corroded connection thats just what they told you.

find a better dealer and have the issue fixed.

Sounds like an issue with the vac system. Get it all replaced. My dad had a similar issue on his 05 FX4. He has burned out the hubs a few times, the Vac motor, corroded connections, faulty 4x4 switch... the list goes on. I would have a full systems check on that... but like mentioned above, take it to another dealer.
