Integrated or External Brake Controller

I'm looking at purchasing a new FX4 and one of the options I've been going back and forth on is the integrated brake controller. What is the general feedback on the integrated controllers? Are they decent or should I look into getting an external controller?

In the past, I had a Tekonsha Prodigy. I thought it was a decent controller, but I also don't have experience with any other controllers to go by.

Integrated brake controllers work with the vehicle ABS, ESC, and trailer sway if equipped. Otherwise, performance is about the same as the Prodigy/P2/P3.

I opted to not get the integrated controller. I just took my prodigy out of my old truck and put it in. I drilled a hole in the cubby hole that the integrated controller would have been in and ran the wiring through the back. It fits nicely in there.

Factory controller is the greatest thing since sliced bread. It is engineered by Tekonsha and works with the vehicle systems, ABS etc. Also it saves you form drilling up your dash.

I think for the money, it was the best option you could get. I love mine!

For all the reasons APT gave plus it's such a nice, clean install. I had to retrofit mine after using an aftermarket unit, and it is SO much better.

My 2 cents. It's worth it to get the factory one. It looks nice, and the display is integrated into the information display in the dash so there are no extra screens like the '09 has. And it looks nice and like has been said before integrates into everything in your truck, ABC, Trailer Sway ect.

Agree with all above. The integrated brake controller is the only way to go. Much better all around for the reasons listed than the aftermarket I had on the last F-150.
