no gas cap question!

I'm still debating whether or not i like the idea. But a quick question. I was washing my truck the other day and opened the gas door to spray out and clean the inside of the door. only after i was done did i see that there is a seal on the door itself. Is that the only thing that seals the filler neck or does it seal when the trap door closes. I'm hoping i didn't just introduce water into my new truck's fuel system already. anything would help.

thanks,
Q.

This is a good idea and design. Some fuddy duddies may not like it because they fear any type of change and unfamiliar things

You should be ok, there is a closure at top of gas tube anyways.

And you can buy a keyed cap. I did, more for situations like kids having "fun".
There is a seal at top. Has to be as it is a pressurized system.

Just look down the tube to see how it works. If you can't see, just light a match.

i would think ford figured out something beyond the seal around the gas flap...otherwise i've been running my truck with water in the tank for the last 6 months.....

Yes, it is sealed (of course, lol), but you can't just open it by sticking something down there.....try it with a stick or even your finger, the metal flap will NOT open. It is designed to be opened ONLY by a gas nozzle (or similar shaped device - hence the plastic filler tube included with your truck in case you run out of gas). If you look closely on either side of the tube opening there is two spring loaded "tabs" that must be pressed in simultaneously to "release" the flap and allow something to pass through. This is a well thought out safety mechanism, it has to be really for Ford to use it on almost all of their new vehicles.
